Who You Are and What You'll Do

The Senior Claims Compliance Scientist works collaboratively with a cross-functional team of stakeholders to research, create, strongly support, and defend bold, differentiated claims both brand wide and product specific within home care to protect the integrity and authenticity of the brand.

Claims Development Support

Work with brand marketing, shopper marketing, integrated marketing, and other key stakeholders to develop new claims territories and concepts for technical exploration and experimentation.

Design Lead proof of principle experiments to inform direction for claims development projects for marketing campaigns, advertising, packaging, and other media.

Create and execute approved claims support plans and create claims support documentation to substantiate technically accurate and defensible claims across all brands and product categories.

Collaborate with CTI to develop a coordinated qualification and claim support plan as needed

Collaborate on the design and conduct consumer testing where applicable to support claims statements and implied claims.

Create numerous claims support standards for use across various Unilever brands and train cross functional leaders on the use of said standards.

Participate in the “Claim storm” process for innovation projects to determine desired claims, create and execute claims plans, and support Brand Management in developing claims options for legal review and approval.

Work closely with legal counsel for alignment on claims support plan development, research result validity, and technical risk assessment.

Conduct market assessments of claims in key and adjacent categories to deliver: competitive landscape assessments, catalog of claims of key competitors, and competitive advantages/disadvantages.

Support technical aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility/Corporate Consciousness and advocacy campaigns via research and substantiation of health, environmental, sustainability, and other claims.

Support legal proceedings and regulatory audits as required.

Liaise with leaders from around the world to ensure the global portfolio of claims are relevant, technical supported, and legally vetted in all marketplaces.

Claims Review Approval

Lead claims risk discussions between Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Research Development, and Legal to drive decisions on claims risk acceptance or rejection.

Based on technical data, identify and communicate risk related to study design, results, or other pertinent technical issues related to claim support.

Take part in the claims review routing process, including documentation of risk assessments, working through copy revisions in collaboration with key stakeholders, and archiving approved materials.

Work closely with Regulatory Affairs to ensure comprehensive claims review.

Work cross-functionally with Legal, Marketing, Regulatory and others to develop label manuscripts.

Lead the Claims Review Meeting, including but not limited to meeting documentation and communication of risk assessments and risk decisions.

Participate in Artwork review as a subject matter expert.

Create, document, and implement processes and procedures related to claims development, support, review, and approval.

Support and collaborate with public relations team as main point of contact

Support participate in sales meetings as lead RD stakeholder

Certifications

As needed, manage relationships with third party certifiers

As needed, manage product related certifications spanning submission to maintenance including but not limited to EPA safer choice, USDA biobased

Explore and bring forward new certification options that are aligned with the brand and provide a competitive advantage.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Bachelor’s Degree in Biological or Physical Science with 5-10 years of experience in consumer-packaged goods.

Expertise in designing, analyzing, and interpreting studies spanning various scientific disciplines to support product claims.

Ability to assess risk based on technical data.

Knowledge of FTC Green Guides a plus

Working knowledge of regulatory claims requirements for household cleaners

Foundational knowledge of the Stage Gate method of new product development/innovation.

Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills with intense attention to detail.

Capacity to flourish in an environment of rapid change and high ambiguity.

Able to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.

Desire to work in a small, entrepreneurial environment and for a socially responsible business.

Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, knowledge of Product Vision a plus.

Willingness to continually embrace personal and professional development.

Working Conditions

Open office environment

No specific physical requirements

Travel is expected up to 10% of the time

Pay: The pay range for this position is $84,400 to $126,600. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
