UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Senior Research Assistant, BS to support the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences department!
This position will work daylight shifts, as well as some nights and weekends. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.
The goal of Dr. Liang’s research is to investigate the mechanisms by which women with diabetes have increased risk of mesh-related complications following the implantation of urogynecologic mesh in the surgical repair of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, thereby developing therapeutic approaches to improve the mesh outcomes in this cohort.
The job includes but is not limited to model maintenance, assisting in surgeries and euthanasia, tissue processing for histology and biochemistry, performing experiments by following protocols, cell culture maintenance and carrying out some administrative tasks.
This position is grant funded.
The Senior Research Assistant, Basic Science is responsible for accurately performing research projects according to established study design and procedures and is under limited faculty or Research Associate supervision. This role acts as a lead resource for other laboratory support personnel.
Responsibilities:
Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function.
Maintain a safe clean laboratory-working environment including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage by ensuring the adherence to laboratory and hospital policies and standards.
Ensure the proper preparation of label, proper storage and disposal of reagents, and proper equipment calibration for research projects.
Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
Perform approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting of results.
Assist with training programs for other laboratory personnel on research activities and practice.
· Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or other basic science.
· Two years’ experience in a research environment with at least one year in the designated specialty of research.
