About Senior Product Designer (Teams)

Our team is seeking a talented Senior Product Designer to help define and design compelling experiences that empower people to achieve more together. You will shape the direction of the core framework and extensible experiences for Microsoft Teams, the chat-based collaboration app that is changing how people work together.

Our design team is a highly collaborative group of user researchers, engineers, and product designers. We value creativity, openly sharing ideas, and having fun while we work. Most of all, we’re motivated by our millions of users. We want them to love our products.

As a Senior Product Designer on our team, you can conceptualize the big picture as well as drive detailed design development for collaboration and communications user experiences. You should have a demonstrated record of innovative thinking, a history of using design to drive new ideas and the ability to help others to make the right design decisions.

At the core of this job, candidates will help work directly with other design teams inside of Microsoft, to drive shared experiences inside and outside of the Teams app, as well as improve the general craftsmanship of the product in a tactical way across mobile and desktop. Candidates will be working very closely with developers to implement high quality, well-crafted, design-led initiatives.

Candidates should be able to articulate their thinking using a variety of mediums from design mocks, interaction flows to detailed prototypes and specifications. Candidates will need to show attention to detail and interest in the work produced.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

  Responsibilities

You will own experiences from end to end, mentor fellow team members and provide feedback on the design thinking and ways to frame the problem space to illicit provocative discussions and paths forward. Sets the appropriate context for a given problem space, whether it is critical data on the competitive landscape, user quotes, market opportunities or pressures, and articulate what success means, before addressing potential solutions. Aligns stakeholders at every phase of the project.

Communicates and sets a cadence to sync with critical stakeholders, while simultaneously helping people not have meeting overload. Works practically with others and can identify how to get the most out of someone and have fun driving the project together as a team.

Interacts with engineering for successful design implementation and performs Quality Audits (QAs) to help them ensure delivery of design Plan of Record (POR). Demonstrates ability to challenge limitations, negotiate with Engineering, adjust Engineering schedules, find alternatives, and make cases for designs to be implemented a certain way.

Generates and can lead ideas to solutions for complex design problems (e.g. involving many constraints, needing workarounds, requiring holistic view of interconnected systems) to deliver sophisticated and elegant product design solutions. Utilizes a variety of perspectives when ideating (e.g. experience, technology, user research, business).

Synthesize complex ideation solutions to concise articulation of user wants and subsequent solutions.

Be an advocate for your design solutions by putting the audience in context of business and user goals.

Be self-directed and highly organized. Highly motivated and driven to get the details right.
