  Job Description - Senior or Lead Analyst - Resource Acquisition and Planning

  We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Senior or Lead Analyst - Resource Acquisition and Planning.

  The Company’s Fuels and Resource Procurement team is responsible for providing the vision and leadership for the management of the Company’s coal and natural gas supply options, power supply hedging plans andAll-Source Requests for Proposals (ASRFPs)for Tucson Electric Power (TEP), UNS Electric (UNSE), and UNS Gas (UNSG). TheFuels and Resource Procurement teamparticipates in companywide planning initiatives that include negotiations of fuel and power supply contracts, acquisition of new generation assets and evaluations of new renewable and energy storage technologies.

  Position Description:

  TheResource Acquisition and PlanningAnalystis responsible with assisting in the development and evaluation of proposals from the Companies’ All-Source Requests for Proposals (ASRFP) and PURPA Qualifying Facility avoided cost determination and administration. The Analyst provides analysis and review on the evaluation of project proposals to ensure adequate, reliable energy supply at the lowest reasonable cost. The Analyst may utilize complex resource planning production cost models and is current on industry trends related to renewables and energy storage technologies. The Analyst works with other internal planning groups and recommends procurement strategies related to the development and siting of new generation resources.

  The Analyst must have strong analytical and Excel modeling skills to perform analysis on both supply- and demand side resources. The Analyst must have an understanding of the regulatory processes related to resource procurement and industry evaluation practices and will need to effectively communicate complex procurement strategies to senior management, utility regulators and internal work groups.

  Position-Related Responsibilities:

  · Assists the development and evaluation of the Company’s ASRFP solicitations - including performing short- and long-term needs analysis, developing project evaluation criteria and bidder solicitation documents to fairly evaluate projects across a wide range of technologies.

  · Works with various planning groups including Legal, Transmission and Distribution Planning, Credit, and Procurement to validate the viability of project proposals.

  · Participates in strategic planning activities with Wholesale Marketing, System Operations, Environmental Planning and Financial Planning to ensure that adequate resource capacity and the Companies’ long-term resource planning goals are achieved.

  · Must stay up to date on emerging technologies, evolving market policies and how changing federal and state energy regulations may impact the Companies’ resource portfolios and risk profiles.

  · Perform advanced analytical and production cost modeling analysis on planning scenarios that will help position the Company to respond effectively to future business conditions while minimizing risk and cost associated with resource procurement.

  · Works with other departments in support of major company-wide efforts, such as rate cases, regulatory filings, data requests, asset purchases and financial restructuring.

  · Implement effective resource planning and procurement strategies derived from knowledge of the California Independent Systems Operator (CAISO) Western Energy Imbalance Market dispatch requirements.

  · Provides both written and analytic support for federal and/or state regulatory filings.

  · Participates in the Company’s Integrated Resource Planning process as needed.

  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  Minimum Qualifications

  Familiar with the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM) dispatch requirements.

  Must have an understanding of Large Generator Interconnection process and study requirements.

  Minimum of 4 years of resource planning, resource procurement or resource development experience.

  Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or related field(s), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidate's experience & qualifications.
