Job Description Summary
The Senior Nurse Intern position is for nursing students that havegraduated from an accredited BSN or MSN nursing program. In the clinicalsetting, the senior nurse intern assists the patient care team inprovision of basic daily care to patients and support of significantothers. Performs various service duties such as assisting patients withbasic hygiene and daily living activities, and routine technical taskssuch as wound and respiratory. Maintains patient care areas in a cleanand orderly condition. Provides nursing care, which is appropriate forthe age and development of the patient and other tasks under thedirection of the Registered Nurse.

Job Description
The Senior Nurse Intern will:
Performs, assists and/or supervises the patient in personal careactivities such as hygiene and grooming, skin care, ingestion offood and fluids, elimination of body wastes, mobilization anddressing/undressing in compliance with the Nursing Care Plan.Demonstrates competency in applying the principles of the growth anddevelopment of infant, child, adolescent, young adult, middle-agedadult and geriatric patients as measured by specific performancestandards and as described by SRAlab policies and procedures.Demonstrates the ability to provide care-using principles of growthand development-related information to assure patient needs are met.Performs and records basic/ technical skills tasks as authorized,such as collecting routine specimens, taking T-P-R and BP,collecting and recording intake and output and blood glucose, givingenemas, performing intermittent catheterization, bladder volumeinstrument measurements; and hanging gastric feedings to gravity andwith pumps.Performs advanced technical skills such as insertion of a foleycatheter, tracheostomy care, tracheal suction via a tracheostomy,ostomy care, wound vacs, and sterile dressing changes not requiringinvolving application of medicated ointments or creams.Assists the nurse with collecting and report pertinentphysiological, psychological functional data based on patient\'sfunction skills or needs.Observes patients and reports reactions or changes in conditionimmediately to the Nurse.Provides comprehensive nursing care for assigned patients bymaintaining and following a current care plan and adjusting asdelegated by the Registered Nurse.Maintains patient care areas in a clean and orderly fashion.Assists in transferring patients nd patient care equipment to otherspecified areas adhering to necessary safety precautions.Assists in monitoring supply needs to ensure adequate inventory atbedside.Assists in improving the patient/family environment by utilizingappropriate cognitive/perceptual techniques, independence andfacilitating positive self-image and communication skills.Documents functional care, intake and output, vital signs and othermeasures in SRAlab IS or utilizes downtime procedures.Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interestof the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to assigned Nurse Manager/Clinical/AdministrativeDirector or designee.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Must have completed an accredited BSN/MSN nursing program.
Must take and pass NCLEX. Employee will be allowed a second attempt butmust be no greater than 60 days from first attempt. If unsuccessfulsecond attempt employee will no longer qualify for a Senior Nurse Internrole.
Analytical ability to make decisions concerning a change in patient\'sstatus, when to reorder supplies and equipment and to determine ifequipment is functioning properly.
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, family andhospital personnel.
