Evaluate metallurgical properties of metallic alloys in order to design heat treatment and forging processes for such alloys; implement tests to improve heat treatment practices and ultimate quality of the heat treatment products involved, such as aqueous polymers, quenching oils, and martempering oils; support and participate in global long-term research and development activities to develop novel heat treatment products; collaborate with formulation chemists to match performance properties of heat treatment products with application requirements; assess new and alternative raw materials to enhance product performance and minimize cost; and assist the quality assurance lab in solving quality and production problems. Visit client locations in the United States and internationally on an as-needed basis for field testing and to advise clients on product needs, as well as to provide product training, technical support, and quality control.
Requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Material Science or a related field such as Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering and 7 years of experience, or alternatively, a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in same and 5 years of experience with the design of heat treatment and forging processes for metallic alloys, and using SIMHEAT simulation software to analyze metallurgical properties of alloys.
