Senior Manager, Electric Distribution Strategy
Location: Reston, VA or Remote

Our team works with clients interested in advancing the operational capabilities of the grid to enable distributed resource orchestration and market participation. Our projects span grid modernization, energy resilience, flexible load management, renewables integration, and regulatory strategy. We are looking for a grid innovation leader to advance our projects in these key areas, contribute to the continued evolution of our client offerings, and lead the team’s business development and thought leadership efforts. The ideal candidate is an innovative leader with strong strategic and business management skills who can drive growth, foster strong client relationships, and advance the industry conversation on these critical issues.
As a practice leader, you will plan, market, sell, and deliver innovative, best-in-class consulting services in the power sector with a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach that integrates strategic and technical advisory services to our clients. You will build and deliver a portfolio of work helping electric utilities make strategic and investment decisions in grid modernization, electrification, and decarbonization. As part of your role, you will manage consulting assignments and support team development, with direct responsibility for project management, client contact, and business growth.
This is a full-time position, and we are ready to hire immediately. Location is flexible.
What you will do:
Work with electric utility clients to tackle complex challenges related to distribution system planning and grid modernization investments to enable grid edge sensing, measurement, analysis, communications, and control.
Develop client strategies on distributed energy resource (DER) integration, orchestration, and utilization to enable the provision of grid services through DER aggregation and virtual power plant (VPP) solutions.
Lead and grow a team in this practice area and manage talent architecture to support team development and innovation.
Work closely with our practice leads and marketing function to lead the continued development of the team’s service offerings in this space.
Lead, coach, and share best practices with other ICF colleagues.
Establish yourself as a thought leader through external publications and presentations that showcase ICF’s technical leadership.
Manage technical consulting assignments, including outlining and drafting deliverables, managing the budget, and directing project staff.
Meet with clients and present at industry events (travel 5-10%)
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, or related disciplines.
8+ years of utility consulting or relevant energy industry experience.
2+ years of project management experience with multidisciplinary teams.
5+ years of direct experience working with electric distribution utilities.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Master’s Degree
Team management and building experience.
Experience with the electric utility industry.
Prior consulting/commercial project leadership and management experience.
Experience engaging on key issues and trends related to utility grid planning, operations, and grid modernization strategy development.
Working knowledge of distribution systems such as Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS).
Experience with the dynamics of DER aggregations and VPPs, including their participation in organized wholesale markets and utility programs.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
$136,141.00 - $231,440.00
