Job SummaryThe Senior Director of Security/Safety and Emergency Preparedness oversees all aspects of Anchorage School District security and emergency preparedness programs and planning, as well as safety and operational plans. The position coordinates and is responsible for planning, management, reporting, and training in security, safety, and emergency preparation for all schools and departments within ASD. The senior director will organize and lead enterprise-level planning teams to develop comprehensive, strategic level plans and programs. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
Job RequirementsThe following are required:
A bachelors degree in management, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.Ability to establish and lead integrated planning teams, and to develop comprehensive, strategic-level plans and programsExcellent verbal and written communication skills.Prior leadership, supervisory, planning, and management experience.Proficiency with information technology operating systems.The following are preferred:
Advanced degree in management, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field.Knowledge of principles and practices of security, safety, and emergency preparedness.Knowledge of and experience with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).Knowledge of and experience in conducting safety and physical security inspections.Ability to coordinate and manage districtwide security, safety, and emergency preparedness programs.Ability to plan, prepare, and conduct training as needed.Essential Job Functions
Directs, oversees, and coordinates all aspects of Anchorage School District security management and reporting, safety preparedness and training, and emergency preparedness in cooperation with schools and departments within the Anchorage School District, Municipality of Anchorage, and State of Alaska.Develops, integrates, and manages strategic-level security, safety, and emergency preparedness plans and programs for ASD.Advises and directly supports the chief operating officer and superintendent on security, safety, and emergency preparedness issues.Represents ASD and coordinates directly with government and non-government organizations and agencies on all security, safety, and emergency preparation matters.Leads integrated planning teams to develop comprehensive, strategic-level plans and programs.Prepares, submits, and manages the departmental budget.Analyzes events and incidents and recommends improvements.Oversees acquisition, implementation, and operation of security technology, including but not limited to intrusion detection, electronic access control, closed circuit television, and radio communications systems.Seeks and administers grant funding related to security, safety, and emergency preparation.Conducts internal investigations and assists the police with criminal investigations as required.Responsible for the sustainment and maintenance of emergency shelters.Assists in planning to enable ASD to operate a command center consistent with Incident Command System principles.Proposes policy and practice intended to prevent, reduce, and/or counter crime and misbehavior at ASD facilities.Coordinates and works directly with the districts Director of Risk ManagementGathers and maintains relevant statistical data.Delivers presentations and represents ASD in the media.Serves as a liaison with the Anchorage Police Department school resource officers.Oversees Camper Host Program partnership with the Maintena ce Department and the Municipality of Anchorage.The Anchorage School District is an equal employment opportunity employer.
