PURPOSE:
Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Perform activities related to the day-to-day administration and maintenance of transactional databases, ensuring that the database is available, performing properly, and safe. Perform complex installations, upgrades and patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, monitoring, and configuration. Confer with appropriate managers regarding problems with and capabilities of databases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Implements designs and structure provided by Systems and Data Architects. Performs installation of complex, clustered and high-availability software and hardware environments in a timely manner in keeping with current release levels. Creates and maintains schedules for software maintenance and upgrades. Coordinates software user/acceptance testing activities for new installations and upgrade activities.
Develop and implement techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoot incidents to recover services and support root cause analysisProvides project management support regarding most technical aspects of implementing project release upgrades for assigned systems which includes: properly following a project life cycle, the development of project plans, completing all appropriate documentation and notifications in order to obtain resolution within the established timeframes.
Supports the development teams application development. Administers database environments that support development.
Maintains data in database environment, including production.
Assists in defining back-up and recovery requirements.
Transforms and loads data into database. Carries out version control process. Analyzes legacy system data.
Provide day-to-day database support for mission critical applications on DB2 DPF (Database Partitioning Feature) and DB2 HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery) databases.
Rotating 24x7 on-call support responsibility
Manage and monitor DB2 HA (High Availability) infrastructure and TSA (Tivoli System Automation) to ensure 24 x7 system availability
Design and implement DB2 management functions such as system backup, database reorganization, Runstats, etc for HA environment and to maximize system availability and use.
Conduct performance tuning and optimization work on multiple DB2 databases tuning SQL and database structures for optimal performance and system throughput.
Analyze performance issues and troubleshoot hardware, storage, network and workload for optimization.
Install, configure, and manage the full DB2 software stack on AIX environment for HA and maximum performance.
Partner with project teams and interact with customers to identify technical solutions for projects and operational issues
Provide support for data replication between production site and disaster recovery site
Ensure stability of both infrastructure and software stack
Provide support for performance testing system optimization
Work with product vendors (e.g., IBM and EMC) for troubleshooting and collecting traces for enhanced vendor support
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or IT related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Licenses/Certifications:
DB2 11.1/11.5 LUW Advanced Server Edition, DB2 Extended Enterprise Edition/Database Partitioning Feature(DPF).
AIX 6.1/7.1, Linux, TSM, TSA, Q-Replication, InfiniGuard NetBoost, DSM, shell/Perl Scripting, Websphere application Cognos, Sharepoint, Microsoft Office.
Experience:
5 years Experience perform full data management duties, including migration and continuous integration/delivery.
5-10 years of hands-on DB2 UDB experience in an AIX environment
Experience installing DB2 and applying DB2 Fixpack upgrades on AIX High Availability (HA) systems (both DPF and non-DPF)
Configure, tune and maintain HA using Tivoli System Automation (TSA)/High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) for database failover and failback support
Experience in DB2 SQL performance tuning using tools such as db2advis, db2expln, db2batch, db2exfmt and DSM
Configure DB2 Workload Manager (WLM) for load balancing and tuning different workloads (on-line transaction, ad-hoc querry, and batch)
Install and set up Q-Replication between databases, MQSeries and handle subscription changes.
Configure DB2 backup clients with Tivoli Service Manager (TSM) and NetBoost Boost (InfiniGuard) for point-in-time backup recovery.
Experience with flashcopy/snapshot functionality for database cloning and backup
Working knowledge of Federation, Multi Dimensional Clustering (MDC) and Materialized Query Tables (MQT).
Experience with IBM DB2 troubleshooting tools including, but not limited to, db2pd, db2diag, db2inspect, db2dart, db2top, and Data Server Manager (DSM)
Experience with DB2 data movement and copy utilities such as load/import/export/High Performance Unload (HPU)
Ability to write and troubleshoot DB2 shell/korn/perl scripts for automation
Working knowledge of scheduling tools such as Control-M and Crontab
Experience with database archiving tools such as Optim Data Growth (ODG) preferred
Understanding of DB2 BLU and knowledge of when BLU data structures are appropriate for implementation
Prior experience supporting Ab Initio, Cognos, HTTP server and Websphere applications.
Ability to review and troubleshoot SQL scripts to identify and address performance issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of Oracle, DB2, MS SQL Server and similar databases.
Ability to communicate effectively with analysts, developers, tests, and project managers in both oral and written form.
Ability to work minimal supervision.
High-level of analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SL).
Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.

Salary Range: $93,096 - $184,899
