  Job Description Summary

  In the GE Aviation System’s ATO (Advanced Technology Organization), you will work with senior, talented engineers on breakthrough technologies for various military and commercial applications. One such program the ATO is actively working encompasses Hybrid Electric representing the future of the aviation industry. Together along with partners such as NASA, GE Aviation is defining game changing technology for the aviation industry to ensure the long-term viability of our planet. The Senior Engineer activities for Controls include contributing to the design, development, troubleshooting, and verification of closed loop control systems for products, solutions, and systems for the Aviation industry.

  At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

  Big News! GE Aerospace to invest up to $20 million to add a new test cell and equipment at the Electrical Power Integrated Systems Center (EPISCenter) in Dayton, Ohio, to meet increased demand for hybrid electric aircraft engine component testing in coming years.

  Job Description

  Roles and Responsibilities

  Analyze customer requirements and select best power converter topologies to meet the requirements

  Create control algorithms and simulate power systems using MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS or equivalent simulation tools to support design efforts

  Work with software team to implement embedded control algorithms in digital signal processors and/or FPGA as the application dictates.

  Tune the control loops, troubleshoot, and verify control algorithms for power electronic products such as converters and inverters that control various equipment such as motor/generators in the lab environment

  Test embedded motor controller or power electronic circuits through digital communication, debugger, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and Bode plot machines in a lab environment

  Work with customers both internal and external to troubleshoot issues

  Lead the validation efforts to test functionality of equipment

  Required Qualifications

  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college

  Minimum of 6 years of experience within an engineering role

  This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status.

  Desired Characteristics

  Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college

  3 years of experience developing controls systems for power electronic/rotating equipment applications

  Strong knowledge of various types of motors, their analytical models for simulation and controls

  Strong knowledge of power electronic circuits, topologies, and their characteristics

  Hands on experience in C embedded programming, microprocessors and their peripherals

  Experience with FPGA designs and ability to read hardware description language

  Ability to understand schematics and PCB layout

  Hands-on experience of operating standard electronic test equipment; oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, frequency generators, signal analyzers, etc
