About Senior Center Coordinator

  Our client has an immediate need for a bilingual (Spanish) Senior Center Coordinator toplan, organize, and coordinate a wide variety of recreational, cultural, and community service programs and activities for senior citizens; plan and coordinate the activities in the Senior Citizens' Center; counsel and assist senior citizens in a variety of services provided at the Center; provide information to the general public and prepare the Center's monthly newsletter; and perform related work as required.

  Essential Functions:

  Plans, organizes, supervises, coordinates, and oversees assigned senior services programs and activities, including recreation, cultural, and community services programs, and social services for seniors such as information and referral, assistance with legal, medical, insurance, taxes, housing, nutrition, health screening, and financial matters.

  Plans, prioritizes, assigns, and reviews the work of staff responsible for providing recreation planning and programming services and activities for senior citizens.

  Evaluates and maintains records on the status of recreation programs; prepares reports and correspondence.

  Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the assigned facilities and programs.

  Establishes schedules and methods for providing recreation planning and programming and food service activities and services.

  Conducts research on new ideas for programming; evaluates community needs and recommends programs to meet those needs; recommends modifications to recreational and social services, programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.

  Assists in the preparation of the annual Senior Center budget.

  Prepares and implements measures to ensure the safety and security of participants in programs and services.

  Utilizes community-wide marketing tools to encourage community participation; prepares monthly newsletter and disseminates information to the community on recreation programs, activities, and developments; develops and monitors volunteer programs and incentives.

  Schedules facilities to accommodate senior service programs and services; coordinates building services with janitorial staff.

  Serves as contact person and resource for community agencies and organizations concerned with recreation; coordinates community projects with service clubs and other civic organizations.

  Provides information to and consults with the public.

  Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.

  Supervises the provisions of nutritious meals for senior citizens and ensures quality control through planning and research of products and recipes.

  Performs advocacy activities for senior citizens.

  Initiates requisitions for supplies and equipment; coordinates inventory and supply procedures.

  Participates in a variety of boards and commissions; attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of community services and recreation.

  Provides administrative support, such as covering the front counter, compiling statistics, maintaining files and records, and prepares periodic reports.

  Performs duties of a disaster services worker in event of an emergency.

  Performs related duties as assigned.

  QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:

  Recreation, cultural, and social needs of the senior community.

  Principles, practices, and service delivery needs related to senior services.

  Procedures for planning, implementing, and maintaining a variety of recreation and leisure activities and programs through community participation.

  Principles and practices of recreation program development, implementation, review, and evaluation.

  Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to senior services and related facilitie .

  Basic principles and practices of employee and volunteer work planning, assignment, direction, and training.

  Safety principles and practices, including first aid and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

  Recreation site management, including coordination with special instructors and concessionaires.

  Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, record keeping, business mathematics, and computer applications related to the work.

  Computer applications related to the work, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  Records management principles and practices.

  Techniques for effectively representing the City in contacts with government agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, regulatory, and legislative organizations.

  Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors and City staff.

  Ability to:

  Plan, coordinate, and evaluate senior service programs.

  Interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.

  Effectively conduct meetings and make presentations to various groups.

  Present complex information orally and in writing in an easy-to-understand way for employees, community groups, and decision-makers.

  Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

  Establish and maintain a variety of filing, record-keeping, and tracking systems.

  Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.

  Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.

  Use English and Spanish effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.

  Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.

  Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  Experience:

  2 years of progressively responsible experience coordinating, organizing, or administering recreation programs, preferably involving senior citizens. Supplemental coursework in gerontology is desirable.

  Licenses and Certifications:

  Valid California class C drivers license with satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance.

  Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificates within one year of employment.

  Full-time: Monday - Thursday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

  Pay = $28.76/hr
