Kalmar USA, Inc. (Ottawa, KS) is seeking to fill multiple Sr. AutomationEngineer positions. Will be responsible for the design, dev,documentation, functionality testing and revision of embedded SW codeand applications used to operate, manage and interface with embeddedmicrocontrollers, sensors and integrated CAN comm networks incorp, forexample, as part of hydraulic control sys and power drive control sysetc., incorp on Kalmar Autoshuttle shuttle carriers, Kalmar AutoStradstraddle carriers and Kalmar Automated Stacking Cranes, in order toensure that the auto sys on Kalmar cranes and carriers delivered tocustomers operate satisfactorily and integrate with customers\' existingsys. Also responsible for the design and dev, architecturedocumentation, functionality testing and revision control of embedded SWcode used to manage, operate and communicate with hardware peripheralsand file sys within embedded devices as well as to create operatorinterfaces with embedded devices through both wireless and fiber-basednetworks. Interfacing with electrical or sys engineers in order togather and analyze reqts related to SW supported machine functions.Designing and implementing embedded machine control and comm SWapplications and application components in C, C++, Assembly, and SQL inmultiple application frameworks, incldg Q-T, and on multiple operatingplatforms, incldg Linux and Windows, based on Matlab models, functionaldesign docs, SW engineering requirements and applicable industrystandards, such as CAN, which optimize and balance the following goals:run-time performance, memory requirements, simplicity and correctness,dev time and effort, reusability, extendibility, reliability and safety.Creating SW requirements specs that have correct and sufficient detailsfor SW implementation. Participating in the SW testing, incldg the devof automated test plans, test scripts and unit tests. Testing,troubleshooting and debugging embedded sys SW issues through rigoroustesting, incldg the dev and execution of automated test plans, testscripts and unit tests, and then document resolutions to the issues.Developing updates to sys SW documentation to support changes inrequirements and related subsys or sys. Assisting with the dev andtesting of the on-board peripheral and operator comm networks utilizedfor machine control operations, incldg configuring PLC and HMI sys aswell as creating SCADA interfaces. Assisting with the design, develop,programming, testing, implementing and tuning of stored procedures andDB server engines that facilitate access and query of the back-endobject-oriented and relational DB sys employed for machine control.Maintaining awareness of embedded SW dev activities to maximize thereuse of existing internal or external SW components in order to shortenthe product dev cycle as well as increase productivity and quality.Configuring wireless devices for smart comm interfaces. ImplementingModbus and Profinet comm sys. Designing ladder logic using schematicsand troubleshooting real-time issues related to ladder logic. PerformingPLC hardware configuration and troubleshooting for comm sys and VFD(variable frequency drive) electro-mechanical drive sys. Peer-reviewingother SW engineers\' changes/designs. Assisting in field testing of SWand sys developed. Anticipating operational problems by studyingoperating targets, modes of op, unit limitations as well as monitoringunit performance. Liaising with cross-functional groups as well as OEMand other end customers on issues of sys design, specification, engrngdev and production release to help drive product dev from initialconcept design stage through to final product release as well as toresolve post-release op concerns. Investigating and evaluatingapplicable technologies and techniques and introduce promisingtechnologies and techniques into the organization. Position may beperformed from anywhere in U.S. Position requires limited travel (10%)to customer sites at container port and terminal sites locatedthroughout the U.S. Monday through Friday; 40 hours per week; 9:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.; \$74,300 to \$80,000. Required: Master\'s degree in fieldof Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Computer Engineering, plusfour months middleware administration experience for machine automationperforming the design, development, implementation, support,troubleshooting, or maintenance of: embedded middle-tier applicationsfor the programmable logic controller (PLC) and human machine Interface(HMI) sys; SCADA interfaces to acquire data from sensors and networkdevices connected to PLC and HMIs; Modbus or Profinet comm sys; andprogrammable automation controllers (PAC).
