  Job Posting Summary

  The Senior Grant Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely accounting, reporting and compliance with grant policies and procedures, as well as compliance with federal grant rules and regulations and award terms. The role serves as the key liaison with principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and other internal and external grant personnel.

  Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  Financial Gatekeeper of Grants: ensure proper use of funds according to award documents and grant budgets, ensuring proper allocation and reporting of funds.

  Perform grant administration by maintaining grant control list, facilitating the establishment of grant records, and overseeing financial reporting timelines for grants.

  Manage grant budgets and work with Budget Director to ensure matching / cost share funds are provided for in the University budget.

  Monitor grants to ensure compliance with federal rules and regulations, award terms and University policies for expenditures. Approve expenditures for accounting accuracy ensuring adequate support and program relevance.

  Track cost share and/or matching funds ensuring budget availability and ascertaining expenditures are in accordance with approved budget, including ratio.

  Coordinate with the Budget, Human Resources and Payroll offices to ensure timely and accurate salary allocations. In addition, accurate and timely notification to Payroll and Human Resources regarding grant salary allocations.

  Collaborate and coordinate with schools and departments, particularly the Office of Sponsored Programs and private investigators.

  Work closely with program and project managers to manage and oversee budget and technical matters.

  Prepare drawdowns and payment vouchers and manage collection of receivables.

  Prepare and file all financial reports required by grants. Analyze supporting documents to ensure adequate documentation of expenses.

  Reconcile grants monthly and monitor receivables from funding organizations and any deferred revenues.

  Responsible for grant indirect cost calculations, allocations, and recording, as well as other recovery monies.

  Prepare all grant related journal entries for month and year end closes and coordinate monthly accruals with the Accounts Payable Department.

  Primary financial resource for grant personnel; responsible for responding to inquiries.

  Responsible for preparation of audit schedules related to grants and compliance with single audit requirements while ensuring proper documentation.

  Assist with year-end audit procedures and preparation of Schedule of Federal Awards and other financial reporting requirements (i.e., footnotes, compliance reports, etc.).

  Responsible for the fiscal management of all grants and contracts in accordance with government regulations.

  Perform budget to actual analysis for review by principal investigators and other grant personnel.

  Investigate/research issues that arise with grant data and coordinate resolution.

  Perform other duties/projects as assigned.

  Qualifications

  Required Skills & Experience:

  Minimum three to five years of general ledger maintenance, including journal entry experience and month end closing

  Knowledge of integrated enterprise-wide financial accounting and reporting systems

  Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  Strong leadership, interpersonal, presentation, and written and oral communication skills

  Strong problem-solving skills

  Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  Detail-orientation, customer service orientation, ability to work independently, and great levels of responsibility required

  Minimum two years of experience with government grants and contracts

  Experience with the Ellucian Banner ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system

  Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited four-year college

  Physical/Other Requirements:

  Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies

  Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

  The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

  Deferred Compensation Plan

  All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

  Defined Contribution Plan

  Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

  If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
