Summary This is a Title 5 Excepted Service National Guard Employee position This National Guard position is for a SELF-DIRECTED HARM PREVENTION SPECIALIST (PREV WF), Position Description Number T0030P01 and is part of the J9-JFHQ, New Jersey Army National Guard. Responsibilities As a SELF-DIRECTED HARM PREVENTION SPECIALIST (PREV WF), GS-0101-12, you will: Facilitates dialogue between state programs, divisions, directorates, and other areas to capture existing upstream drivers and measures relevant to the primary prevention of self-directed harm. Maintains insight into the National Guard Bureau (NGB) IPP office to track efforts, measurements, and councils. Supports engagement in existing state tools and programs. Works within IPP Officer to elevate promising practices within the state that relate to the primary prevention of self-directed harm report findings up to NGB. Coordinates multidisciplinary evaluations. Consults with managers in areas that impact self-directed harm to ensure integrated prevention trainings are synchronized to promote and incorporate evidence-based practices and learning objectives are designed for the National Guard (NG) with cross-functional impact. Assists the IPP Officer in managing information flow between JFHQ, Wings, BDEs, and NGB. Collaborates and coordinates with state and local agencies and universities by reviewing scientific journals for national best practices and integrated primary prevention trends oriented to self-harm prevention. Maintains familiarity with evidence-based assessments and measurements. Assists with IPP needs assessments. Collects qualitative and quantitative data from JFHQ, Wings, and BDEs activities relative to integrated self-directed harm prevention to ensure program fidelity. Utilizes outcome data and metrics from the civilian sector within their state/territory/ District of Columbia (S/T/DC) or region for comparison to NG data. Works with other JFHQ divisions and offices to evaluate relevant NG programs for effectiveness and impact to the primary prevention of self-directed harm efforts. Maintains an understanding of self-directed harm policies and the working dynamics between primary prevention and secondary prevention and post intervention. Maintains collaborative relationships with the JFHQ, Wing, and Brigade (BDE) Suicide Prevention, Substance Abuse Prevention, Drug Demand Reduction, and Resiliency program personnel, the NGB self-directed harm Primary Prevention SME, and other relevant support programs. Has an in-depth knowledge of the programs, policies, and processes which drive Army National Guard (ARNG) and Air National Guard (ANG) drug deterrence, substance abuse, suicide post intervention and response efforts within their S/T/DC. Maintains a parallel and clearly defined supporting role to existing JFHQ data collection efforts and advocates prevention messaging with sensitivity to pre-existing trauma. Coordinates with full time personnel managing resiliency, suicide, or substance/drug misuse programs to secure access to de-identified data that will be used for developing products, statistical analysis, tracking, reporting, evaluating program effectiveness, and conducting research for the primary prevention of Self-directed harm. Coordinates with Family Readiness Program personnel, Directors of Psychological/Behavioral Health, Judge Advocate, and other response/post-intervention personnel to ensure alignment of messaging to JFHQ council or board leadership regarding self-directed harm prevention. Serves as the units IPP point of contact for all self-directed harm prevention efforts and conducts Site Assistance Visits (SAVs) to the unit as required. Acts as subject matter expert (SME) on Integrated Primary Prevention (IPP) as applied to Self-directed harm prevention. Advances policies outside of the existing Resilience, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention (R3SP) (Army) and Suicide Prevention (Air) office for equities specific to self-directed harm primary prevention Performs other duties as assigned. Experience utilizing the organization, its mission and the organizational staff procedures. Experience interacting with a variety of groups and/or individuals; and the ability to apply analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a social science procedural or factual nature. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year in the occupational series code 0101 at the next lower-level GS-11 or THIRTY-SIX (36) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as acting as subject matter expert on Integrated Primary Prevention as applied to Self-Directed Harm Prevention; advancing policies outside of the existing Resilience, Risk Reduction and Suicide Prevention (R3SP) and Suicide Prevention for equities specific to self-directed harm primary prevention responsible for facilitating dialogue between state programs, divisions, directorates, and other areas relevant to the earliest prevention of self-directed harm; supporting engagement in existing state tools and programs; establishing measures of effectiveness in the primary prevention of self-self-directed harm; assisting with data-informed courses of action appropriately resource self-directed harm primary prevention activities; establishing, revising, and reviewing policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organizational design; advising leaders at all levels of best practices and evidence-based programs, policies, and plans; conducting educational sessions and briefings regarding the primary prevention of self-directed harm; coordinating multidisciplinary evaluations; consulting with managers in areas that impact self-directed harm; ensuring combined prevention trainings are coordinated; analyzing and recommending changes to surveys and trainings for self-directed harm; maintains an understanding of self-directed harm policies; coordinating with full time personnel managing resiliency, suicide, or substance/drug misuse programs; supporting and participating in state-level committees, boards, and working groups.
