Overview
The position of Campus Safety Officer supports the mission of the Department of Campus Safety to foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Campus Safety Officers will be required to execute a number of comprehensive and integrated security measures and countermeasures and must be able to adapt physically and psychologically to the changing needs and priorities of the Department of Campus Safety and the University.
Responsibilities
Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent NYS Security Guard Registration
Preferred Education:
Some college-level courses or background. NYC Fire Safety Director Certification.
Required Experience:
1+ years relevant experience in security, safety, customer service, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
Private Security, Military, or Law Enforcement.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to comprehend and adhere to safety procedures and the capability to quickly detect and escalate issues to appropriate personnel. Adept at reading and understanding policies and incident reports and in imputing reports into a Records Management System. Articulate and effective in verbal and written communications, maintaining calm and courteous in routine and emergency situations. Skilled in collecting and organizing data and utilizing security-related technologies. Security Officers must possess and maintain New York State security guard registration throughout the course of their employment, including participation in and successful completion of any legally mandated training, including but not limited to on-the-job training and/or annual in-service requirements. Must also possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license. Working Conditions: Security Officers may be exposed to the attendant discomfort or elements of serving outdoors for prolonged periods of time in inclement weather conditions. This includes walking or standing for extended periods while on duty. Incumbents must be able to execute essential duties and respond promptly to emergencies autonomously without the use of supportive mobility devices. This includes the ability for prolonged walking, potential running when required, ascending and descending stairs, maneuvering in various terrains, and moving efficiently through large crowds or densely populated areas. In addition, the role necessitates the capacity to bend, lift, and move objects of up to 50 pounds. The ability to operate departmental equipment, including radios and access control systems. Dexterity for repetitive hand and arm movements essential for procedures such as administering CPR and handling emergency response equipment, including first aid kits, defibrillators, fire extinguishers, etc. Visual acuity sufficient to monitor surveillance systems, identify individuals or potential threats, and read documents or screensthe auditory ability to perceive sounds and respond to alarms or other indicators of emergencies.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $27.188. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
