Job Summary
As assigned and scheduled by the Security Coordinator, Guards patrolUniversity Housing resident hall facilities and grounds, and performsprotective duties, such as enforcing pertinent administrative rules andregulations governing facility access, equipment security, and breachesin physical security controls.
Duties & Responsibilities
During hours scheduled by the Security Coordinator, Guards patrol(walking) specific housing facilities as assigned. Patrols areconducted to deter theft, damage to property or equipment, and toinsure personal safety of students, employees and visitors.
Provide assistance and information to students, employees andvisitors
Ensure enforcement of Campus and University Housing administrativerules and regulations governing facility access.
During patrol rounds, checks for the following and reportsaccordingly to instructions:
Unlocked facilities
Potential safety hazards
Signs of fire
Signs of vandalism
Inadequate lighting both inside and out
Equipment malfunctions such as alarms, fire exit doors, etc.
Requests police and/or medical assistance when needed.
Assist police officers as requested or assigned
Concludes patrol rounds by checking all doors, fences, gates,restrooms, stairwells, fire door, and windows
Assists staff, when necessary, in controlling access to facilitiesand enforcing the proper use and protection of materials andequipment
When requested, accompany/escort students, staff and visitors withinUniversity Housing property.
Maintain documentation of patrol findings and reports them to theSecurity Coordinator through nightly security log entries.
Prepare written reports as needed
Serve as back up to all Security Guards
Attends training, as assigned, on a regular basis.
During interim periods, work is assigned by the SecurityCoordinator.

Additional Physical Demands
Physical Requirements - The nature of the responsibilities of thisposition requires mobility, including patrolling inside and outside,building corridors, going up and down stairwells and escorting students,employees and visitors within University Housing property. Inestimation, guards are expected to be mobile between 5-9 miles pershift. The incumbent is expected to be ever vigilant and to respondquickly to emergent situations at hand.

Minimum Qualifications
Per SUCSS Class Spec:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid/ urrent Illinois driver\'s license.
3. No record of conviction of a felony, or of a crime involving moralturpitude.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to compile and update reports is required, as well as theability to work independently and to cooperate with others. Previousguard duty/police training/fire training experience desirable.Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4210 - Security Guard position,appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon aspossible. Salary starts at \$16.78 and is commensurate with experience.
