Overview
The Security Engineer performs third level support for the helpdesk and LAN-support teams with regards to network security issues. Maintain the integrity/security of Institute data flow.
Responsibilities
Perform vulnerability assessment, threat assessment, mitigation and reporting activities in order to safeguard Institute assets.
Provide incident response functions when appropriate and coordinate activities with site Incident Handlers.
Conduct research pertaining to the latest viruses, worms, etc. and the latest technological advances in combating unauthorized access to information.
Write guidelines, standards, policies, procedures and other technical documentation.
Provide information and recommendations on improving security of the Institute’s data assets.
Aid in the planning and completion of network upgrades, installation and maintenance.
Monitor firewall, IDS, email gateway, SIEM, and NGAV security devices.
Provide help to end-user community with issues that come into the help desk that are related to connectivity or security. Escalate the ticket to the appropriate Security, Engineering, or Networking team member when needed.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Security+, CCNA, CISSP, CCNP, or other CompTIA certifications preferredEDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred
Master’s degree in Cybersecurity preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Six years of IT experience required, with at least four years IT experience in a networking and/or security role working with firewalls, IDS, and other network or security tools
