Job Description:
As the space avionics packaging subject matter expert for the mechanical engineering department, you are a technical leader with a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical packaging for avionics systems for ground support equipment, launch vehicles, and spacecraft. The role of the subject matter expert is to ensure technical quality of the deliverables created by the space avionics packaging team, and to aid in laying the groundwork for success on future programs. The consulting engineer is an influencer, motivator, and leader who provides robust technical leadership to teams and programs.
Essential Functions:
Provide technical guidance on most difficult and complex problems.
Serve as technical expert in customer discussions where needed.
Support bid and proposal process (develop and approve technical approaches and estimates)
Identify skills gaps within department, for both current needs and future program support and technology development
Approve all technical documentation and deliverables, including (but not limited to) design change documentation, technical papers and substantiations, reports, and engineering review board presentations
Participate in customer meetings and technical interchanges as required
Participate in talent acquisition as required
Develop best practices and standard work
Provide mentorship and help skills development within department
Strategic thinker with broad understanding of space avionics industry
Outstanding communication (both verbal and written), collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills
Experience with problem solving methods (RCCA, 8D, or others)
Working knowledge of CAD and analytical tools (Solidworks and Ansys preferred)
Extensive knowledge of mechanical design best practices, GD&T, high precision manufacturing processes, and common aerospace materials.
Ability to conduct reviews of mechanical designs, analysis, and change notices
Experience with creating engineering estimates, plans, and Bases of Estimates
Capable of working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement
Experience with total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well within and outside of the organization including customers, vendors, and leadership with minimal oversight
Demonstrated complex problem solving and decision making — Able to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution
Must have demonstrated capability with all Essential Functions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Minimum of 10 years of electronics packaging experience, with the majority in space-related applications.
3 years experience with MIL-STD-810 testing of hardware.
2 years experience with performing and interpreting finite element analysis for thermal and structural analyses
Must be a U.S. Citizen
