Rare Isotope Beam Scientist
Position Summary
The Rare Isotope Scientist will accomplish conceptual development, efficient implementation, and effective operation of advanced instrumentation systems of the Laboratory, including research and development on advanced instrumentation systems relevant to future programs of the Laboratory.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
Develop methods to improve FRIB fragment separation, reduce the time and effort necessary to deliver rare isotope beams Operate fragment separators, beamlines and experimental devices Deliver beams required for facility development and science experiments Perform research with rare isotopes to enhance the reputation and visibility of the facility Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this position classification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of experimental techniques in nuclear science, ion optics, and instrumentation with expertise in one of these areasDemonstrated ability to conduct research in nuclear science and to deliver instrument improvement projectsExperience conducting experiments in nuclear science and data analysisKnowledge and operation of fragment separators or magnetic spectrometers is highly desiredExcellent communication skills to communicate effectively and credibly with all audiences, both verbally and in writing

Required Degree
Doctorate -Physics or related field
Minimum Requirements
PhD in Physics or related fieldRecord of accomplishments in nuclear scienceDemonstration of knowledge of experimental techniques in nuclear science, ion optics, and instrumentation, with expertise in one of these areas
Desired Qualifications
Experience operating and using fragment separators or magnetic spectrometers
