Description of JobAbout the Position
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a SafetySpecialist IV to join our Office of Transportation Safety (OTS), located inthe Denver Metro area. You will provide expertise and guidance regarding thedevelopment and implementation of OSHA construction safety training for allCDOT s employees. OTS relies on this position to increase visibility,presence, comprehension, and proper use of Excellence in Safety products andother Headquarters-developed, statewide safety initiatives. You will assistwith gathering data, recommending programs, developing and deliveringtraining, as well as providing oversight and consultation for applicablestakeholders and implement new products and programs based on organizationalneeds.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, thefollowing:
Work directly with Regional Safety Officers to identify compliance needs anddevelop training for our employee population in areas such as confined spaceentry, fall protection, and other related areas of safety compliance.
Work with stakeholders to develop and deliver protocols, products and trainingtargeting CDOT engineering staff responsible for reviewing contractor SafetyManagement Plans and inspecting CDOT project sites.
Read, comprehend, and recommend revisions to submitted safety plans forcompliance with current OSHA 1910/1926 standards.
Manage, review incidents, and provide summary reports.
Perform field assessments in work zones and other work environments todetermine safety needs and whether existing safety programs and productsprovide value.
Provide remote and on-site professional advice and recommendations concerningcompliance with safety related CDOT policy/procedures, applicable laws, codes,regulations, specifications, standards, and industry best practices.
Function as an occupational safety subject-matter expert resource. Researchand give advice in response to specific requests and from data gathered fromincident reports, safety trends, and industry standards.
Use organizational leading and lagging indicators, employee feedback, industrybest practices, and field assessments to identify opportunities forimprovement in safety services aligned with department goals.
Be available and highly mobile to cre te a personal venue for employeefeedback and evaluate performance to improve QA/QC of current and futuresafety products.
Train employees on proper safety procedures, PPE use, ergonomics, tool use and
