About Safety Director

  JOB SUMMARY: The Safety Director is responsible for shaping and executing the company's safety strategy to achieve outstanding safety performance. Working collaboratively with leaders across the organization, the role involves developing and implementing long and short-term safety plans, setting measurable goals, managing change, tracking progress, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Safety Director oversees safety programs and initiatives, manages a safety team, and utilizes a network of safety representatives to ensure effective communication and local needs are addressed. Collaboration with HR and operations leaders is essential to establish performance management parameters, and the Safety Director, with help from the safety team, ensures compliance with federal and state safety regulations. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of key safety management systems, including incident management, policies, procedures, training, communication channels, hazard identification, audits, and information analysis. The Safety Director manages the safety budget and performs other related duties as required or assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: * Set company direction and strategy to achieve outstanding safety performance. * Work in collaboration with leaders across the company to maintain awareness of the opportunities and set the priorities associated with safety performance. * Develop long and short-term safety strategic plans. * Set goals for leading and lagging metrics, track progress, and communicate factors leading to or constraining progress. * Utilize proven practices of culture change and initiative implementation to gain and maintain measurable performance improvement. * Partner with all levels of management to launch, maintain and improve safety programs. * Hire, develop, utilize individual strengths, evaluate, and supervise safety team. * Utilize network of safety representatives across the company to maintain two-way communication and help with onboarding, distribution of safety materials and similar local needs. * Collaborate with HR and operations leaders to establish performance management related safety parameters; including expectations, recognition and reward mechanisms, and discipline process and criteria. * Assure company compliance with federal and state safety regulations to reduce accidents and workplace injuries. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and any other applicable agencies. * Oversee the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of key safety management systems, including: * Incident management, investigation, and corrective action. * Policies, procedures and practices. * Training, education, and communication. * Identification and mitigation of hazards. * Field and facility audits. * Availability of safety equipment and materials. * Gathering, analysis, and distribution of information. * Client databases, prequalification and proposal support, and other client requests. * Develop and manage safety budget. * Perform other related duties as required or assigned. Additional skills/competencies include: * Ability to effectively influence entire staff to retain ownership and accountability for safety initiatives. * Ability to effectively use analytics to surface and solve problems. * Ability to be creative and negotiate solutions. * Demonstrated management and supervisory skills. * Demonstrated ability to lead culture change and implement initiatives that make a measurable impact. * Highly effective presenter and trainer for all audiences. * Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with all employee levels. * Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. * Ability to work well in teams as well as independently and with minimal supervision. * Proficiency in OSHA, MSHA, and industry specific safety regulations. * Intermediate PC skills including: Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.; experience with SharePoint and WorkDay a plus. * Valid driver license with acceptable driving record. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent four-year degree in a related field required Experience and/or Training: 8 years professional experience in a related field, including 5 years in a leadership role Licenses/Certificates: CSP certification preferred Technology/Equipment: office PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: * Essential: continuous sitting or standing at desk or workstation; other physical requirements typical of working on a computer and talking on a phone 85%-100% each day. * Hearing and vision (both correctable) are essential. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: * Office environment, using computer, telephone, other office equipment as needed to perform duties; frequent interruptions throughout day likely. * Position requires periodic offsite travel (locally and throughout United States).
