What does the role look like?
The Safety and Certification Engineer plays a pivotal role across various Value Streams and Projects within the Collins Aerospace Wolverhampton organization. This position involves offering support and approval for Reliability and Safety Analysis, conducting Product Safety investigations, and overseeing the Airworthiness review and approval of Technical Publications and technical documentation across the organization.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
Safety & Reliability Engineering Focus:
Collaborate closely with the Systems Engineering Lead to formulate innovative system architectures that align with Safety and Certification requirements.
Develop Safety and System-level architecture requirements for new and unique systems.
Investigate in-service failures, including the creation of statistical models and predictions, and offer support to the Product Integrity Committee (PIC) and Product Safety Board (PSB).
Participate in design reviews, evaluating the impact of any design changes on reliability, maintainability, and safety.
Contribute to the development of Standard Work, lessons learned, processes, R&S tools, skills, and best practices.
Provide Safety and Reliability technical expertise, advice, and guidance across a diverse range of projects. Capable of mentoring junior RMS engineers (for P4+ / Principal+ applicants).
Input into the Actuation Product Safety Process and support Product Integrity Committee (PIC) and Product Safety Board (PSB) activities.
Certification Focus:
Offer Regulatory guidance for AS9100, CAA / EASA Part 21, CS/FAR 25/27/29/33/E, SMS.
Conduct Airworthiness reviews and provide approval for:
Declarations of Design and Performance (DDP)
Technical Publications
Rotable Parts Certificates
Sealed Operation and Frozen Process Change Requests
Salvage and Repair Schemes
What will you bring to the role?
Essential skills:
Proficient in Safety Engineering: Expertise in conducting FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Safety Analysis to ensure a robust safety framework.
Regulatory Acumen: Preferably experienced in aerospace, rail, or automotive sectors with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
Business Influence and People-Oriented: Skilled in cultivating influence within the organization, adept at communicating with individuals at all levels, and possessing strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and communication.
Desirable skills:
Engineering / mathematics background with an excellent knowledge of R&S engineering. Knowledge of Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
Able to understand and analyse systems at unit and detail design level.
Possess a good understanding of mechanical and electronic engineering.
Computer literate with the ability to use word processor and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of Fault Tree and FMEA packages, current aerospace standards and certification requirements.
Knowledge of UK CAA / EASA Part 21 requirements and Certification Specifications and Regulations (Candidates demonstrating good working knowledge of equivalent regulations from Nuclear / Rail / Automotive should apply)
Able to understand the mathematics associated with Safety and Reliability engineering, including statistics and statistical analysis, probability theory, and mathematical modelling.
Knowledge of maintainability and ILS
