GBA is looking for a Roadway Civil Engineer to join our TransportationGroup. This position entails project management and a lead design rolefor transportation projects. We work on a variety of project typesincluding planning and corridor studies, street and highway design,roadway infrastructure rehabilitation, bike and pedestrian facilitydesign and ADA compliance, and complex interchanges. The ideal candidatewill offer Illinois DOT (IDOT) design and project management expertise,however, MoDOT and other DOT design experience will be stronglyconsidered as well. This role includes providing guidance to teammembers and leading by example. Strong ethical standards and a desire tohelp others progress in their career will be key. Responsibilities:
Manage and/or lead Design on transportation engineering projectsincluding expansion, reconstruction or rehabilitation ofintersections, local streets, collectors, arterials, rural roadways,trails and sidewalks including ADA facilities.Analyze reports, maps, drawings, perform site visits, and reviewsurvey data to plan and assemble construction documents.Conduct preliminary engineering evaluations and studies to identifydesign improvement alternatives, compare options, and assist inmaking design recommendations related to transportation projects.Prepare project quantities and cost estimates.Be responsible for project quality on tasks assigned as defined inthe Quality Assurance / Quality Control guidelines.Provide hands-on expertise to lead/contribute to the design ofcomplex projects on a multidisciplinary team.Coordinate assigned activities with clients to discuss specialproject needs, prepare a scope of projects and appropriatedocuments, coordinating activities to implement projects and monitorthe progress of each, provide policy, technical and administrativesupport as needed.Coach and mentor less experienced staff and assist with their careerdevelopment.Use basic project management skills to plan, organize and monitorwork activities and budgets, and assist in group scheduling andplanning.Establish and maintain client relationships with new and existingclient base. (i.e., serve as a trusted advisor, Subject MatterExpert, etc.)Assist in business development opportunities, including preparationof proposals, participation in client meetings and engagement inmarketing activities to grow our client network in Illinois.Prepare and present projects to governing bodies and various boardsand commissions.Represents our clients in meetings with members of other public andprivate organizations, community groups, contractors, developers,and the public.Confirms project compliance with local, state, and federalregulations and mandates, enforcing of appropriate safety andsecurity precautions.Other duties as assignedKnowledge, Abilities and Skills
Possess a broad range of DOT design and project managementexperience.Ability to sell work and manage the execution of the work.Ability to coordinate and work closely with local and nationalresources.Familiarity with CAD software, specifically Bentleys MicrostationOpen Road Designer (ORD).Strong time and project management skills, including prioritizationand multi-tasking ability in a rapidly chan ing environment withcompeting goals.Experience developing, monitoring, and managing projectdeliverables, budgets, and schedules.Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures,laws, codes and regulations.Requirements
Bachelors degree in Civil EngineeringLicensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, other states a plus5+ years of experience in project design and plan development, DOTexperience preferredExperience with MicroStationStrong working technical knowledge of engineering principles andpracticesExperience with project pursuits and proposal development is a plusAbility to lead design teams on a variety of transportation projecttypesExperience with negotiating project scopes and proven successmanaging project budgets and schedulesGood verbal and written communication skills with the ability toeffectively communicate at all levels both internally and externallyIts More Than Just A Job
