  What We Want

  The Assistant Librarian will participate in the development and implementation of programming for the Book Arts Program and the Historic Press Room. This position will coordinate the daily operations, facilitation of acquisitions, and use of program resources and equipment for teaching and research. They will e nsure organization of physical and digital exhibitions, and social media and publication content. In addition, this position will collaborate with colleagues in cataloging, processing, digitization, and preservation of collection materials. Not to mention, The Assistant Librarian will p rovide service in instruction for teaching faculty on book arts, printing techniques, printing history and related topics .   What You Need to Know

  Starting Salary: $5,241.67 per month

  Required Education and Experience :

  Master's degree in library science , m useum s tudies, English, or related field

  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  Knowledge of academic library functions

  Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities

  Ability to communicate with all levels of customers and employees

  Conflict Resolution Skills

  Knowledge of email and office software.

  Knowledge of book arts and printing history

  Skilled in instruction

  Preferred Education and Experience :

  Two or more years' experience in an academic special collections and archives environment

  Master’s degree (MLS, MLIS) in Archival Studies, Special Collections, or Curation

  Experience with printing, bookbinding, papermaking, artist bookwork, fine press and/or fine press artists books, both historical and contemporary

  Experience in project management

  Experience in outreach initiatives

  Experie nce in exh ibition curation

  Ability to provide work direction to staff and student workers

  Ability to work independently and take initiative

  Knowledge of standards, ethics, security guidelines, and best practices of special collections

  Knowledge of French, Italian, Spanish, or German

  Responsibilities:

  Program Management of Book Arts & Historical Press Room: Participates in the development and implementation of programming for the Book Arts Program and the Historic Press Room. Coordinates the daily operations, facilitation of acquisitions, and use of program resources and equipment for teaching and research. Provid es services in the development of the book arts and printing collection with the Special Collection and Arch ives div isi on. Prov ides guidance in promoting collection and programming in teaching and research initiatives among students, staff, faculty, and local and national communities. Ensures organization of physical and digital exhibitions, and social media and publication content . Supervises staff and student workers.

  C ollaborations and Partnerships: Participates in departmental and interdepartmental meetings and activities as a member of the Special Collections & Archives unit. Collaborates with colleagues in cataloging, processing, digitization, and preservation of collection materials. Aids and provides guidance to researchers, university faculty, students, and patrons with inquiries and projects related to Book Arts & the Historical Press room. Participates in donor relations and donor cultivation efforts.

  Outreach and Instruction: Participates in user engagement tours, presentation, and instruction sessions. Provides service in instruction for teaching faculty on book arts, printing techniques, printing history and related topics. Aids in scholarly seminars which inc ludes the Book History Workshop.

  Contributions to the Profession: Participates in scholarly activities and professional services for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs. Serves on campus and library committees , national/regional working groups related to special collections , book arts, book history, etc. and p erforms other duties as assigned.
