Oversees the daily operations in Surgical Services working with all areas of the department, including anesthesia and scheduling to maintain safe and high-quality patient care. Coordinates with Charge Staff, Surgeons and surgery reps as needed to lead daily operations. Functions as a staff nurse if needed.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

Oversight of operations in the Surgery Department to provide age-appropriate care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients following ProMedica’s Mission, Vision and Values.
Employs critical thinking skills, good judgment, and continuous improvement, in all aspects of patient care and coordination of care, working collaboratively with surgeons, leadership, staff and customers.
Monitors daily surgery schedule to assure efficiencies in block time utilization, required surgical equipment, and appropriate staffing. Participates and helps guide departmental education and orientation of new staff.
Collaborates with leadership on meeting departmental goals, required education for staff, and meeting workforce and productivity targets.
Maintains professionalism and accountability to follow all policies and procedures including Standard of Conduct.
Collaborates with leadership and Charge Staff to covers departmental staffing needs in crisis situations.
Maintains good communication with hospital and department leadership and staff to provide a culture of patient and employee satisfaction, engagement, and integrity. Assists with patient and customer concerns and needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of approved school of nursing for registered nurse.
Skills: Must be able to perform all necessary nursing skills. Must be able to communicate effectively in person and able to use a phone and computer. Must be able to handle crisis or emergency situations.
Years of Experience: 1 year of surgical nurse experience.
License: Current RN licensure in the State of Ohio
Certification: BLS, ACLS and PALS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: BSN preferred.
Years of Experience: 3 years of nursing experience in a surgery department strongly preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Standard Precautions and various isolation requirements which may include gloves, gown, goggles, mask or a CAPR hood.
Physical Demands: Must be able to read and speak the English language. Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Frequent prolonged standing/walking. Manual dexterity required. Frequently lifts/carries/pushes/pulls over 50 lbs. Regularly exposed to electrical and radient energy hazards. Regularly exposed to nuclear isotopes. Regularly exposed to infection and contagious disease. Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens from blood and/or bodily fluids. Subject to long and/or irregular hours.
