The Ambulatory Surgery Registered Nurse promotes and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients scheduled for invasive procedures based upon age specific and cultural needs.
Begins development of a perioperative plan of care including specimen collection, pre-op tests ordered the day of procedure as well as other medical care treatments.
Completes thorough pre-operative admission assessment. Documents patient interventions. Administered medications as ordered.
Review pre-op charts. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care. Communicates with anesthesia, surgeons to assure patients are at optimal state prior to surgery.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family pre-operative education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Provides Phase II recovery.
