Department Overview The respiratory care discipline at Children's is generating a new perspective with cutting-edge clinical and diagnostic services including the development of clinical treatment protocols for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory care is provided in a collaborative environment where the clinical and technical expertise of the respiratory care staff is valued by nursing and physician professionals. Respiratory care staff are encouraged to participate in clinical and operational processes, education of peers and patients, and research activities. Respiratory care plays a vital role in Children's national recognition for patient safety and family-centered care. Respiratory therapists are involved in airway management, ventilatory support (including high frequency and NAVA), asthma education, point of care testing, cystic fibrosis disease management, and emergency respiratory interventions. Position Summary Performs delegated respiratory care treatments involving non-invasively ventilated patients in medical/surgical units in cooperation with assigned licensed respiratory therapist resource. This includes and is not limited to: patient assessments, therapy, non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and monitoring emergency procedures according to department and hospital policies and procedures. Student in good standing, enrolled in an AMA and NBRC approved Associate in Applied Science Degree Respiratory Care Program. Successfully completed the first year of a Respiratory Care didactic and clinical education. High school diploma or equivalent required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
