The Ecological Restoration Institute at Northern Arizona University isseeking applicants for a Research Assistant to support social scienceresearch and application for the multi-year ReShape project and othertransdisciplinary research aimed at facilitating and assessing the useand application of decision support systems in multi-stakeholder,collaborative wildfire risk governance, run by the Southwest EcologicalRestoration Institutes (SWERI).
The Southwest Ecological Restoration Institutes, based out of NorthernArizona University, Colorado State University, and New Mexico HighlandsUniversity have received funding from the 2021 Infrastructure Investmentand Jobs Act (the \"Act\") to carry out a 5-year program to develop ageospatial database and viewer that will support collaboration,management, and research, as well as inform management strategies oneffects of fuels treatment on wildfire. The Research Assistant willassist a team of SWERI staff and partners working to compile and displayexisting fuel treatment and wildfire data, facilitate the use andapplication of data, and assess the effects of fuel treatments. Inparticular, the successful applicant will work with the Director ofPolicy and Communications at the Ecological Restoration Institute andthe SWERI team to assist in carrying out the provision in the Act andsupporting SWERI\'s program of applied social science research.
Social Science Research and Translation - 70%
Assist with research, analysis, application, and communication ofsocial science research for the SWERI ReShape project.Scientific methods include, but are not limited to, primary andsecondary social science research methods.Assist with developing publications (white papers, working papers,fact sheets, reports, etc.) as relevant to communicate socialscience findings to affected entities.Assist with developing and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts asrelevant to the research community and to advance scientificknowledge.Collaboration and Partnerships - 15%
Establish and sustain productive relationships and partnerships withaffected entities engaged with SWERI on the ReShape project.Work with collaborative groups in convening, facilitating, andinformation capturing and dissemination of findings from the ReShapeproject social science work.Assist SWERI staff with collaboration and partnerships to sustainexisting relationships and build new relationships relevant to theReShape project.Program Management - 10%
Assist the SWERI ReShape team with program management, deliverabletracking, and accomplishment reporting to ensure compliance andcomplete the required deliverables.Other - 5%
Attend coordination meetings among SWERI and ERI staff.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in natural resource or environmental policy,planning and management-related social science or closely relatedfields.2-4 years of research support experience.A combination of related education, experience, and training may beused as an equivalent to education in the above MinimumRequirements.Preferred Qualifications
Master\'s degree in natural resource or environmental policy, planningand management-related social science or closely related fields.
Evidence of experience contributing to social science-oriented researchinitiatives in natural resource or environmental management
