Job ID359152 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9742R5 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Position description: The Precision Agriculture Center at the Department of Soil, Water and Climate, University of Minnesota is seeking applications for a Researcher position with focus on applications of crop growth modeling, proximal, UAV and satellite remote sensing, machine learning and their combinations for crop yield prediction and mapping at different scales, precision nitrogen management, integrated precision crop management, climate change impact assessment, adaptation and mitigation, and decision support tool development to facilitate the adoption of precision agricultural technologies by crop consultants and growers. The Researcher-5 is expected to write proposals to secure extramural funding to support the related research programs. (15%), perform crop growth modelling-based research (35%), prepare progress report (10%), present research findings at local, national, and international conferences (10%), publish peer-reviewed articles (25%) in scientific journals, and help manage the research group (5%). This position is a long-term appointment, with annual review and renewal. The starting date is Feb. 1, 2024 or as early as a suitable candidate is found. Qualifications: Required: - A Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, Agricultural or Biosystems Engineering, or Geography (with a focus on crop growth modeling or geo-spatial technologies). - At least one year of prior Post Doc training experience. - Experience and proficiency in crop growth modeling, remote sensing image analysis and machine learning. - A minimum of 4 peer-reviewed journal publications as a first author related to precision agriculture or crop growth modeling. Preferred: - Strong background in crop growth modelling and combining remote sensing and crop growth modeling for precision nitrogen management, especially with DSSAT, EPIC, APEX and SWAT modeling experiences. - Strong statistical and machine learning analysis skills, with demonstrated programming skills in Python and/or R. - Being able to work independently and assist in leading an international and interdisciplinary research team. - Strong communication skills. - Grant writing experience.
