The Driscoll lab investigates how the interplay between cell morphology, dynamics, and intracellular signaling governs cell function, focusing on the dynamics of individual cancer and immune cells in 3D microenvironments. Our lab is interdisciplinary, and researchers will use techniques ranging from high-resolution light-sheet microscopy and computational analysis to state-of-the-art molecular biology. Researchers will have the opportunity to present and publish the outcome of their work, as well as take a leadership role within the lab. We are a new laboratory, and in joining you will be able to help shape the culture and future of the lab. TYPICAL TASKS (These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class.) 60% Design, plan, and implement complex research experiments * Support ongoing projects in the laboratory by conducting investigations or experiments to aid in the solution of a research problem (using tissue culture work, florescence microscopy including light-sheet microscopy, western blots, etc) * Rapidly acquire knowledge of new methods as needed to complete projects * Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results * Remain current on technological and scientific developments in the field and their potential uses in the lab * Spur new research directions by generating early experimental results for new projects 40% Manage lab operations * Assist with overseeing and managing the lab and lab equipment, staff, and students. * Help establish the laboratory and manage day to day laboratory operations (shipping and receiving, managing inventory, maintaining the lab website) * Support in the supervision and training of lab employees Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. - Advanced degree (PhD) in biomedical sciences or related field(s) - Experience carrying out complex, long-term research projects. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience with cell culture - Experience with molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, nucleic acid extraction) and/or fluorescence microscopy - Effective oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated publication record - The ability to carry out experiments independently, including troubleshooting, optimization and reporting results About the Department The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota is one of six basic science departments in the .
