POSITION PURPOSE
Assist with research on plant-herbivore interactions.
POSITION COMPLEXITIES AND IMPACTThe Research Technologist 1 (NE S SEIU 925 RT) will work to assist with experiments for publications and grant proposals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Research - 70%
The employee will conduct experiments measuring chemical responses of plants to stimuli by gas chromatography.
The employee will measure headspace volatiles of plants treated with elicitors of plant defensive chemicals.
The employee will operate gas chromatography – flame ionization detector equipment and will standardize collection of this data for large scale phenotypic screens.
The employee will summarize datasets in graphs and figures.Fieldwork - 10%
The employee will participate in field experiments if needed to measure gas outputs of plants using bioassay or gas chromatography techniques.Training - 20%
The employee will train undergraduate research assistants to carry out cleaning, planting, and media preparation tasks. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Two years experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS The announcement of position vacancy (recruiting bulletin) may specify course work or experience within a specific discipline if determined necessary by the personnel officer. Training or experience within a specific discipline will be required to meet the unique requirements of individual positions. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education in Molecular Biology, and skills related to plant care.
