About the Department
The Chicago Center of HIV Elimination (CCHE), embedded within theUniversity of Chicago\'s main campus in Hyde Park, is located inChicago\'s HIV epicenter. Of the 20 neighborhoods in the city with highannual HIV diagnosis rates (greater than 40 per 100,000), 13 of them areno more than eight miles from the University of Chicago. This areaincludes 4 of the 6 communities with the highest annual diagnosis ratesin the city (Washington Park, West Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing andSouth Shore). Our position within the hardest hit neighborhoods inChicago provides unique opportunities to advance HIV testing andprevention interventions locally, providing tangible results to thosemost affected and to improve the lives of those living with and withoutHIV infection. The mission of CCHE is to eliminate new HIV transmissionevents over the next 30 years (from 2011 to 2041) by using networkscience to target and integrate prevention as well as address structuralinequalities among target populations and create community-specificinterventions.
Job Summary
The Research Specialist will be involved in recruitment/retentionefforts, community member enrollment, data collection and projectcoordination/administration. The candidate will assist with thedevelopment of study implementation protocols, literature reviews,development of grant proposals and research papers, and depending onskill set, may engage in data management and analysis.
This position is grant funded.
Responsibilities
Supports recruitment by screening for eligibility and consentingcommunity members.Delivers assessments, interventions, and controls.Supports data entry and analysis.Offers referrals to service programming when appropriate.Conducts literature reviews and supports manuscript and grantwriting.Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists withpreparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.May assist recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assistingwith developing or amending study protocols; assisting withdeveloping data collection tools; assisting with building databases;and providing general administrative support. Is developing skillsin research techniques or methods, regulatory policies andprocedures, and relevant scientific field.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or theequivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have afour-year degree).
