Job Description
RESEARCH SPECIALIST, Chemistry, to join the laboratory of Professor Bradley L. Pentelute (https://pentelutelabmit.com/) . Will apply solid-phase synthesis methodologies and established laboratory protocols to synthesize, derivatize, and purify peptides, peptidomimetic sequences, and mini-proteins using flow technology invented in the research group; perform the solid-phase syntheses by batch, manual flow, or automated flow protocols; perform biweekly maintenance of the three automated flow peptide synthesizers currently installed in the laboratory, along with carrying out cleavage and purification of some of the materials by preparative high-performance chromatography; manage the ordering, receipt, and in-lab distribution of reagents used with these instruments; and gather, standardize, and process all synthesis and analytical data arising from the production of the materials for inclusion in the experimental sections of manuscripts in preparation.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a B.S. (master’s preferred) degree in organic chemistry, general chemistry, chemical engineering, or associated field completed or awarded at the time of application; at least two years of specialized post-degree laboratory experience with solid-phase syntheses; excellent communication and interpersonal skills for managing interactions with other group members and coordinating the research needs part of a large team of approximately ten researchers. Seek a broadly trained individual with a track record in peptide chemistry and experience in organic synthesis, peptide synthesis, RP-HPLC purifications, and/or the use of LC-MS instruments.
