　　Job Summary

　　Works closely with the USM Marine Science faculty on coastal and ocean engineering research. Works on a research project investigating the physical mechanisms causing water-mass evolution and deep-water formation in the Northern Atlantic and Artic region through numerical modeling and data analysis. Assists in managing various research activities in the group.

　　Primary Duties and Responsibilities

　　Conducts original research in the field of numerical modeling and oceanography.

　　Studies the occurrence of convection in the Irminger and Iceland Basins and perform experiments to try and model it.

　　Publishes interdisciplinary articles in scientific journals that report on the results of collaborative research effort.

　　Presents the results of original research at regional, national and/or international scientific conferences, workshops and meetings.

　　Participates in project meetings, collaborates with the project team members.

　　Contributes to work on future funding opportunities and performs all other duties as assigned.

　　Minimum Qualifications

　　Ph.D. in Coastal and Ocean Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline. Related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis. The candidate needs to have at least 5 years of experience in ocean dynamics and numerical modeling.

　　Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

　　Proficiency in MATLAB or Python, and Fortran.

　　Proficiency in basic Linux scripting.

　　Skill in Microsoft Word and Power Point software packages.

　　Preferred Qualifications

　　Experience with running numerical models. Experience with processing, analyzing, and comparing ocean observations and model data. Experience working in a Linux environment and running batch jobs on High Performance Computing (HPC) machines.
