  JOB DESCRIPTION:

  NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a talented Research Scientist to support the Health Sciences Research Department. Our Health Sciences staff evaluate the effectiveness of federal investments in informatics, supports the emerging fields of patient-centered outcomes research and mobile health. The staff also work on large implementation science projects involving patient safety and quality.

  This position is responsible for completing project work which could include development of analytic approaches, questionnaire design, data collection strategy, acquisition of existing data, data analysis, and/or preparing study conclusions and developing high quality reports. This position will also lead tasks and provide direction to other team members.

  Our expert staff evaluates the effectiveness of federal investments in informatics, supports the emerging fields of patient-centered outcomes research and mobile health. The staff also work on large implementation science projects involving patient safety and quality.

  NORC’s Health Sciences staff work collaboratively with colleagues in the Health Care (http://www.norc.org/About/Departments/Pages/health-care.aspx) and Public Health (http://www.norc.org/Research/Departments/Pages/public-health.aspx) Departments to offer program, policy, and research solutions. Our work is guided by a commitment to long-lasting partnerships, transparency, and high-quality, nonpartisan research that improves health and health care for all people.

  RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Design research studies in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers.

  Author and present research at client and professional meetings and lead drafting of final project reports. Submit articles for publication in refereed journals.

  Author sections of analysis reports, technical reports, OMB clearance packages, and other documentary deliverables.

  Assist with quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.

  Engage in business development activities including authoring various sections of the technical proposal.

  Monitor task budget and schedule.

  Supervise staff involved for specific tasks and projects.

  Perform other duties as assigned.

  REQUIRED SKILLS:

  Master's Degree or Bachelor’s Degree and equivalent experience required; PhD in health sciences, health policy or public health strongly preferred.

  At least 7 years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility in research or related field (or equivalent education) including at least 3 years' of social science project management as well as experience with the design and execution of social science research and in publishing research results, with a strong career-appropriate record of peer-reviewed technical publications

  Prior experience in implementation science, pragmatic trials, or program evaluation is a plus.

  Prior work in health information technology is a plus

  Prior experience in qualitative methods with work related to Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) or implementation science is a plus.

  Prior work with Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is a plus.

  Advanced understanding of qualitative and/or quantitative analysis.

  Strong problem solving, project management, relationship management skills.

  Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  Some experience in client communications and relationship management; solid technical writing skills.

  Strong proficiency with MS Office software; strong proficiency with statistical analysis packages.

  Must have experience managing and mentoring staff.

  Strong writing skills.

  Occasional travel to client meetings.

  SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  The pay range for this position is $104,030-$160,077. The budgeted range for this role is: $104,030-$125,000.

  This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
