BSD E&E - Administration
About the Department
In the Pascual Lab in the Department of Ecology & Evolution at TheUniversity of Chicago, we study the ecology and evolution of infectiousdiseases from a theoretical and computational perspective. We addressthe role of environmental drivers, in particular climate factors, in thepopulation dynamics of vector-borne and water-borne infections. We alsoaddress the interplay of transmission dynamics and evolutionary changein the strain diversity of pathogens. We are interested in the vastgenetic variation underlying strain structure and diversity in themalaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum in high transmission settings. Weare addressing this structure, as well as its consequences for theresponse of the transmission system, and for the resilience of thereservoir of infection, to intervention.
