ResponsibilitiesThe Hernandez Lab (seeks a talented and motivated research scientist to join our team. Our research is focused on improving our understanding of the pathogenesis and treatment of tuberculosis, nontuberculous mycobacterial infections, and pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis. The lab uses a combination of animal models (zebrafish and mice), cellular infection models, microbiology, mathematical modeling, and molecular genetics. Active projects may include: (1) developing a model to predict multidrug efficacy for therapy of nontuberculous mycobacteria based on experimental measurements, (2) dissecting the pathogenesis of mycobacterial infection in zebrafish and in mice, and (3) developing alternate treatments for mycobacterial infections such as bacteriophage. Responsibilities will also include assistance in operating a repository of cystic fibrosis bacterial isolates.Responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques; contributes to the planning, design, execution and interpretation of experiments; makes detailed observations, records data and assists in preparation of reports, papers presentations, and new proposals; presents results/papers at technical meetings; may participate in the guidance/mentoring of junior staff. "Full time, 1.0 FTE position.
