  Position Purpose:The Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has an outstanding position for a Research Coordinator (RC)(NE S 6). The Chu Lab is involved in several clinical research studies focused on SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and other infectious respiratory pathogens and is seeking an RC to manage ongoing projects.

  The RC will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, other Research Coordinators, Regulatory Coordinators, collaborators, and study stakeholders to manage the development, oversight, and execution of various studies within the Chu Lab. The position requires the ability to work independently with minimal oversight and the skills to prioritize activities and multi-task to complete multiple scopes of work without benefit of written policies or procedures. This research will be housed in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and has the potential to make substantial impact to the understanding of respiratory pathogens in the Pacific Northwest.

  Position Complexities: This position requires operational knowledge of the University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center, and UW Medical Center and requires in-depth understanding of the research process and ability to integrate this knowledge with research priorities to implement programmatic goals. This position supports the function of an extremely productive academic lab that produces more than 20 publications per year and receives funding from a variety of large grants from multiple sources that contributes to the success and positive societal impact of the University. This position also supports several high impact research studies, including two longitudinal household based COVID-19 and RSV studies. This high out-put study collaborates with external groups and labs at Kaiser Permanente and Vanberbilt, providing biospecimens and clinical data. This position will coordinate with external groups, report internal study updates, and interact with research participants.

  Position Dimensions and Impact to the University: The University of Washington is committed to research that utilizes epidemiologic studies to further general understanding and knowledge surrounding incidence, prevalence, risk factors and prevention of infectious diseases including influenza and SARS-CoV-2. The Chu Lab, part of the Department of Medicine, Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has a history of running multiple large scale studies that have contributed greatly to repertoire on RSV/influenza and, more recently, SARS-CoV-2 research. This position will be responsible for representing the Chu lab with external groups, managing recruitment and informed consent of research participants, and will make a significant contribution to meeting project goals and adding to the growing field of infectious disease research.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Research Study Management & Operations (30%):

  Manage recruitment and enrollment of study participants and informed consent virtually with participants over Zoom. Explain the informed consent process and assist with scheduling and tracking of study visits.

  Conduct retention communication to engage non-compliant participants

  Manage research study procedures that include participant visits, blood draw facilitation with the phlebotomy clinic, recording and inputting of participant clinical data, transportation of biospecimen samples between clinical areas and laboratory, and maintenance of enrollment supply inventory

  Assign and assist with other study procedures as neededParticipant communication (25%)

  Manage in-person study activities, participant appointment schedule and follow up to align with study protocol

  Field and respond to study questions or troubleshooting around research activities via email, phone and text

  Provide study updates via an electronic mailing listExternal Team Communication & Collaboration (25%)

  Conduct quality control of sample inventory in freezers, assist with pulling samples for shipments

  Liaise with collaborating groups regarding collection and handoff of study samples

  Participate in and represent UW in study-related meetings and conference calls for multiple studies

  Respond to inquiries from UW and external investigators regarding recruitment status, study timelines, and research protocols.

  Address urgent issues that arise with team members surrounding participant communications or stakeholder involvement

  Collaborate with external groups and labs at Kaiser Permanente and Vanderbilt conducting related work

  Participate in writing study manuscriptsProtocol Development, Updates, and QC (20%)

  Develop data collection instruments including REDCap surveys

  Prepare Human Subjects Division/Institutional Review Board applications and modifications

  Perform routine data quality control measures to ensure study data is accurate and up to date

  Develop, execute, and provide process improvement feedback for clinical protocols in coordination with team members

  Monitor several projects and produce monthly and quarterly reports to document progress for each project

  Create and revise study materials independently and in collaboration with team members

  Aid in the development of research analytical plans that support research data MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Public Health or a related field. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement. At least one year of experience to including prior experience in an academic research environment, clinical research, laboratory research, project coordination, research data collection related to human health.

  Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  Knowledge of research involving human subjects, implementation and analysis.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  Able to work independently, self-starter, take on a leadership role whilst also being a team player; to maintain positive vision, sense of humor, and flexibility; to multi-task as priorities change, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.

  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to multitask with competing priorities, independent problem-solving skills, and excellent time-management skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  Prior research or clinical experience handling human samples.

  Prior experience with REDCap, EPIC or Tableau.

  Certification of Good Clinical Practice.

  Knowledge of basic laboratory and sterile techniques.

  Understanding of HIPAA and patient privacy and confidentiality.

  Occasional weekend availability as needed.

  Driver’s license and ability to drive to recruitment events, blood draw visits, sample pick up.

  Prior experience working with children.

  Fluency and cultural competency in Spanish.
