Job Description
Prepare proposals for funding agencies
Prepare articles for publications in peer-reviewed journals
Supervise graduate and undergraduate students and other lab, technical and field personnel involved in research
Design, plan, conduct and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects
Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data
Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results
Summarize results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and extension publications
Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies
Maintain financial accounts related to research projects
Install, operate and/or repair research equipment routinely used in a plant physiology lab
Organize and assist with field work including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, weeding and harvesting which requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Two years of related professional experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment including leaf gas exchange system, stem sap-flow system, HPLC, vapor pressureosmometer, and ground penetrating radar
Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others
Additional Requirements
Ability to establish effective working relationships
Location :
Uvalde is a community of 16,000 people located in the Wintergarden region of southwest Texas, about an hour and a half from San Antonio. Much of the surrounding land is used for irrigated agriculture, although the Hill Country lies just to the north with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Center has about 150 acres of land for crop research/production and houses a staff of more than 50 people with active research programs in agronomy, horticulture, breeding and genetics, plant biochemistry, plant physiology, plant pathology and wildlife disease ecology.
