About the Department
The Center for Health and the Social Sciences (CHeSS) provides theinfrastructure to advance interdisciplinary research and training inhealth and social sciences at the University of Chicago. Housed underthe Dean of the Biological Sciences Division's office, the Centersupports and promotes innovation and collaboration as well as excellencein research, scholarship and training. CHeSS serves as an incubator ofideas and supporter of research in health and the social sciences,sponsors seminars and workshops on campus, invites nationally-knownscholars and policymakers to speak on a variety of topics, supports thewriting and submission of grant applications and fundraising proposals,coordinates new research initiatives and projects, manages severaltraining programs and provides expert research methods consultationduring formative and operational phases of investigations. Within theCenter, the Program in Oral Health conducts research and trainingrelated to oral health and associated systemic health conditions. TheProgram in Oral Health has designed a 5-year randomized controlled studyto study the effects of no-fee basic dental care on overall quality oflife and systemic health of older adults. The Program works with otherUniversity of Chicago and external investigators on oral healthprojects. The Program works closely with UCM Section of HospitalMedicine and CHeSS' Methods.
Job Summary
The Research Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the Programin Oral Health at UChicago for the 2024-25 academic year. The role willprimarily work on conducting scholarly research, writing literaturereviews, analyzing data collected, drafting proposals and manuscripts,and presenting scholarly findings. Specifically, they willy work withDr. David Kim (Department of Medicine and Public Health Sciences) on thedevelopment and validation of the US Oral Health Microsimulation (OHM)model for older adults. The US OHM model aims to predict nationaltrajectories of oral health (tooth decay, tooth loss, and periodontaldisease), oral-health-related health outcomes (e.g., diabetes,cardiovascular diseases, oral cancers), and economic outcomes (oralhealth and general health care use and associated spending) among olderadults. The position will also provide analytical support to other oralhealth related projects in the Program in Oral Health as needed.
Responsibilities
Conducting scholarly research, writing literature reviews andpresenting scholarly findings.Data analysis and programming.Drafting proposals and manuscripts.Protects patients and data confidentiality by ensuring security ofresearch data and personal health information and compliance withfederal regulations and sponsor protocols.Understands the federal research regulations and identifies thefederal research organizations' role in regulating human researchparticipation.May prepare and maintain protocol submissions and revisions.Prepares for or participate in quality assurance audits conducted bystudy sponsors, federal agencies, or specially designated reviewgroups.Participates in study-related documentation, such as protocolworksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutionalreview board documents, or progress reports.Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literaturereviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and otherdocuments.Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assistingwith developing or amending study protocols; assisting withdeveloping data collect on tools; assisting with building databases;and providing general administrative support. Has general awarenessin research techniques or methods, regulatory policies andprocedures, and relevant scientific field.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
