The Medical Oncology Veterinary Technician supports the oncology team in providing quality veterinary care, advocates for patients, provides excellent client service, and ensures a safe and efficient hospital environment.

Job Responsibilities:
Maintain open and clear communication with members of Oncology and Internal Medicine team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns
Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions), and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures
Acquire vitals on oncology patients
Administer chemotherapeutic agents as directed, following strict safety guidelines
Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
Induce and monitor general anesthesia, sedation procedures
Perform in house laboratory testing; prepare samples for outside laboratory testing
Documentation of all aspects of treatment
Maintain sanitary conditions of hospital; clean and efficient working area
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Technical skills including but not limited to IV catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, and venipuncture
Restraint techniques, including low-stress and minimal restraint
Able to maintain focus and work in a fast-paced work environment
Basic computer skills
Effective communication and organizational skills
Understanding of basic biological parameters
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program.
Registered in the State of Ohio
At least one year working experience in veterinary medicine preferred
Special Working Conditions:
Fast-paced, high patient load, 24-hour, 7-day/week, 365-day/year veterinary medical facility.
This position may require special hours, including working weekends and evenings.
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
Anticipated Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 8am - 6pm
Compensation:
Competitive Compensation - $20.50-33/hour (commensurate with experience)
VTS $35-38
