　　Job Summary :

　　The pharmacy technician I assists the registered pharmacists in performing a variety of technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of drugs. The duties require knowledge of and skills in various oral and intravenous dosage forms. Duties are performed under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

　　The medication history pharmacy technician is responsible for gathering, verifying, and documenting home medication regimens for patients admitted to assigned areas of RSFH.

　　The technician interviews the patient and/or caregiver to create a home medication list for the purpose of facilitating medication reconciliation by the provider. The technician will utilize available resources to verify the accuracy of the home medication list including but not limited to: physician office records, outpatient pharmacy records, and outside facility medication administration records.

　　The duties require expert knowledge in brand and generic names of medications. The technician works under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

　　Minimum Qualifications :

　　Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program is desirable.

　　Experience: Six months prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.

　　Licensure/Certification:

　　All technicians must register with the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy and must renew their registration annually. State Certification from the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy is preferred.

　　A valid Intern Certificate issued by the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy is an acceptable substitute for the Pharmacy Technician registration.

　　Knowledge/Skills: Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with visitors and other healthcare team members to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality of patient care.

　　Frequent sitting, walking, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, reaching. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Minimal risk of exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Must have use of both hands, be able to see clearly and read small type such as that on unit-dose medication packages and syringes. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, toxic substances, biohazardous materials, pharmacological preparations and/or other conditions common to a pharmacy environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend.
