Job Overview
Provides Family-Centered Care as demonstrated by recognizing the patient,family and/or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate andcoordinated care based on respect for patient's preferences, values, andneeds. Assumes active role in clinical education of patients, families andstaff. Functions effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams,fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-makingto achieve quality patient care. Integrates best current evidence withclinical expertise for delivery of optimal health care. Uses data to monitorthe outcomes of care processes and uses improvement methods to test changes tocontinuously improve the quality and safety of health care systems. Minimizesrisk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness andindividual performance. Uses information and technology to communicate,manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making. Serves asan agent of change within the organization, as demonstrated by one of thefollowing; involved in unit and/or organizational activities,professional development activities, maintain Magnet recognizedcertification, member of a professional organization and/ or activeparticipant in community advocacy or volunteer activities.The Neuropsychiatric Special Care (NSC) Program provides acute behavioraltreatment for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/orintellectual disability ages 4-17 years old who are experiencing a behavioralcrisis. The NSC program's mission is to provide individualized andcomprehensive acute behavioral treatment to address each child's unique needs.Our Interventions Address the Following Key Areas:1. Behavioral evaluations and interventions: Applied Behavioral Analysis(ABA) as the primary treatment model used on NSC which allows for eachchild's problem behaviors to be assessed. Every child has an individualizedbehavior plan created by a psychologist/BCBA that is implemented during achild's admission. Data will be collected throughout their admission tomeasure the e fectiveness of treatment. When necessary, additionalassessments will be administered to better understand a child's behavioralpresentation or diagnosis.2. Structured milieu setting: NSC enhances learning opportunities andpromotes social skills by providing each child with consistent structure in atherapeutic milieu with peers. Children participate in multiple groups dailylearning about skills including: friendship, coping skills, executivefunctioning, life skills, and more!3. Medication management and adjustments, as necessary: Medications mayenhance each child's learning opportunity by helping reduce overwhelmingissues including pain, anxiety, irritability, impulsivity, symptoms ofanxiety and depression and more.4. Teaching opportunities for families and community providers: We teachcaregivers how to implement comprehensive intervention plans specific to eachchild's strengths and needs in order to decrease problem behaviors andincrease pro-social behaviors at home and in community settings. By workingclosely with families and each child's outside providers (e.g.therapists, doctors, school team, etc.), we strive for a smoothtransition out of the hospital setting.
