JOB REQUIREMENTS: Duties 5CN is an acute Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unitthat provides complex care to primarily Cardiology and Cardiothoracicpatients. The telemetry station in the hospital is located on this unitproviding monitoring of the 15 beds on 5CN, as well as remote monitoringon 4C, 6CN/S and 7C. All staff achieves and maintains telemetrycompetence, allowing flexibility in staff assignment to the telemetrystation 24/7. All RNs are ACLS certified. A comprehensiveinterdisciplinary approach to care is provided for the Cardiologypatient in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease processes withemphasis on quality of life and pain management. Patients undergodiagnostic procedures including stress tests, cardiac catheterizationwith or without interventions, electrophysiology studies as well asplacement of implant devices and procedures such as ablations. The ChestPain Protocol is utilized to allow a patient to be in an observationalstatus providing comprehensive care, including testing and treatmentwithin 23 hours. The top five admission diagnoses are: AtrialFibrillation Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI (non ST-segment elevationmyocardial infarction) Chest Pain Atrial Flutter The Cardiothoracicclient usually comes to the unit after his initial recovery in the ICUand includes all post op open heart patients as well as any patienthaving surgery on his lungs or chest. In addition, the unit may havepatients from any other service in the facility that has a cardiaccondition that requires attention including the overdose that requirescardiac monitoring. The nurses on this unit can administer continuous IVcardiac medications such as Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Dobutamine,Furosemide, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin and Procainamide, whichrequires close monitoring. 5CN has a high level of turbulence(admissions, transfers and discharges). In addition to scheduledadmissions, patients are admitted to the unit via the ED, Clinics, PACU,ICU, as well as procedural areas.
