  Introduction

  The Regional Coding Operations Director (RCOD) is responsible for assisting in the development and evolution of the overall strategy for PSG Coding Operations. The RCOD is responsible for oversight of all PSG coding operational processes and workflow, including but not limited to, incomplete record management, practice acquisitions, provider clinical documentation improvement, practice coding processes, and division relationship management as applicable. The RCOD interprets policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate, and provides relevant feedback.

  The RCOD assists the Director Coding Operations Division Support with the oversight and implementation of Coding Operations operational planning, service commitment, budgets, workflow processes and internal controls. As the RCOD, this person serves as a key promoter of Coding Operations and is responsible for setting the tone of Coding Operations as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet, and exceed customer expectations and needs.

  Job Summary and Qualifications

  Assists the AVP Coding Operations in reviewing progress against business case expectations and operational metrics to ensure that financial and operational risks are properly managed.

  Works with the division operations team and CCU team on various implementation/acquisition activities and projects.

  Oversees pre‐acquisition practice activities, including but not limited to practice profile completion, practice coding operational assessments, action planning, and staff education.

  Manages and/or assists the CCU team pre‐ migration/implementation activities, including but not limited to, FTE baselining and management, forms management, charge capture interface development, operational assessment, action planning, productivity monitoring, staff education, and any coding process clean-up.

  Understands practice coding integration efforts and participates in implementation activities to ensure integrity of the coding process.

  Interviews, hires, and provides supervision and leadership oversight to Division Coding Manager and Division Coding Consultants.

  Assists the CCU team with planning, preparation and integration of practice coding functions/processes into the CCU.

  Leads key communication efforts with practice staff, providers, and Division Leadership.

  Responsible for preparation and maintenance of HCA and PSG policy and procedures in compliance with requirements and standards.

  Ensures CCU operational productivity standards are maintained or exceeded during transition.

  Provides oversight, guidance, training, and support to practice managers/staff who serve the coding process role to ensure effective collaboration with key practice and division personnel, as applicable.

  Provides guidance to Division Coding Managers and Division Coding Consultants

  Manages, coaches and provides overall direction and guidance to the practice management and Division Leadership teams to ensure accurate and efficient coding processes.

  Works with the PSG Coding Operations Central Coding Unit (CCU) to identify and resolve internal and external issues.

  Ensures each practice team and division team is actively working their applicable coding work queues.

  Works collaboratively with each practice and division leadership team to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient coding work processes/handoffs.

  Assists the CCU team in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with providers, practice managers, and division leadership to ensure optimal coding performance for the practices.

  Assists the CCU team in working collaboratively with practice management and leadership teams to comply with workflow processes, (e.g., demographics, signing documentation) and is responsible for facilitation and execution of physician notification processes regarding medical record documentation deficiency and delinquency.

  Assists the coding process in serving as a liaison between the CCU team and practice management, including the providers and division leadership, and builds and maintains strategic working relationships with the practice and division leadership (working through specific issues, committee meetings, monthly updates, etc.).

  Proactively manages, including corresponding communications and escalation paths, significant issues in practice operations and CCU team (e.g., coding backlogs, practice backlogs quality issues), status of projects, barriers and successes.

  On an ad hoc basis, may provide interim management for division coding operations.

  May serve, or serve in conjunction with the Coding Operations Leaders, on PSG committees.

  Coaches and helps develop team members; disciplines and counsels staff as necessary.

  Monitors CCU operational performance according to productivity and quality standards as documented in job descriptions and Service Commitment Agreements.

  Assists Coding Operations staff in company‐wide initiatives/projects such as the development of operational models and education programs.

  Assumes a lead role for innovation, knowledge sharing and leading best practice identification within Coding Operations and among peer group.

  Assists in the development and management of strategy, specific goals, objectives, incentive metrics, budgets and performance standards for Coding Operations.

  Manages the Division Support budgets, including monthly reporting, staffing, planning and forecasting.

  Identifies and implements process improvements to lower costs and improve service to practice and various PSG stakeholders/customers.

  Oversees training and education for practice management and practice/division staff.

  Responsible for overseeing performance review process for all direct and indirect reports.

  Contributes to the development of strategic direction for Coding Operations.

  Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.

  Must be willing to travel 30% of the time.

  EDUCATION:

  Bachelor’s Degree preferredEXPERIENCE:

  Minimum 10 years professional fee coding and revenue cycle operations experience strongly preferred.

  Minimum 7 years health care management/leadership experience required.

  Consulting or proven work experience in areas of process reengineering and project management strongly preferred

  Superior interpersonal skills at the executive level and the ability to work within a highly matrix environment is a must.

  Experience leading large organizations preferred

  Consulting or proven work experience in areas of process reengineering and project management strong preferred

  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  Must be a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) through AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or AAPC's (American Academy of Professional Coders) Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) credential or Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H®)Benefits
