  Under the direction of the Breast Center Director and Sr Mammography technician the Mammogram Technical Assistant shall assist the technologists or radiologist with patient flow and procedures,

  Technical Assistants are not permitted to perform diagnostic examinations on patients,

  Education:

  High School graduate or equivalent required.

  Basic computer skills and medical terminology required.

  Certified medical assistant or currently enrolled in a radiology technologist program preferred.

  Experience:

  Hospital, Radiology and patient care experience.

  Familiar with radiology and or medical terminology.

  Maintains excellent working relationships.

  Establishes and maintains intradepartmental communication within the organization to enhance team effort.

  Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume emergencies, staffing and scheduling.

  Assists and supports others in a positive and constructive manner.

  Contributes to the overall success of the team.

  Consistently meets or exceeds patient and/or customer needs.

  Always maintains confidentiality.

  Communicates compassion and care in a non-judgmental manner.

  As a healthcare representative makes continuous efforts to identify opportunities to exceed patient's expectations.

  Uses ethical discretion in discussions related to patient, personal or organizational issues.

  Consistently uses language skills to convey a clear message with a positive and supportive attitude.

  Complies with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and Protected Health Informationl.

  Performs required tasks with little or no supervision.

  Takes personal initiative to maintain professional status with required credentials, licenses and CEU's.

  Maintains above average standards of professional appearance, attitude, behavior, attendance, and punctuality at all times.

  Always handles stressful situations in a manner which promotes a positive outcome.

  Maintains professional appearance as described in hospital Policy and Procedure at all times.

  Reports all on-the-job injuries and seeks appropriate medical attention.

  Insures that equipment remains in good repair and calls for required service when needed.

  Will not engage in any actions that may result in risk or harm to any fellow employee, patients, or themselves.

  Maintains a working knowledge of emergency procedures including fire safety codes & CPR.

  Uses radiation protection according to established protocols including pregnancy screening, shielding, personnel monitoring and in the administration of radionuclides.

  Practices universal precautions and sterile techniques according to OSHA standards.

  Assists the technical staff with patient flow and procedures.

  Maintains knowledge of designated procedure and protocols to assist the technologist or radiologist with the procedure including patient preparation.

  Maintains knowledge of procedures, contraindications, and is able to accurately collect clinical information, necessary images and paperwork to acquire procedure approvals prior to scheduling.

  Able to explain the procedures being performed to the patient.

  Obtain clinical information from the patient or referring physician for the scheduled procedure.

  Schedules procedures per protocol.

  Prepares trays and appropriate forms for procedures.

  Knows the application and location of the supply items in the department.

  Monitors supply stock and order supplies for procedures.

  Use of Radiology system, equipment and patient handling.

  Understands and applies coordination skills to locate patient information and images using all current systems.

  May require heavy lifting of coils up to 30 lbs.

  May require lifting patients for proper placement onto the examination table.

  Handles all specimens per protocol.
