Overview:
There is one Office Specialist I opening with the Yakima County Clerk's Office. This position requires a high level of organizational and communication skills. The court schedule is based on caseload criteria and deadlines and involves numerous local and out of town parties. It is a large, daily process that requires flexibility, adaptability, resourcefulness, technical abilities, and a dedication to the mission of access to justice. The person must also respond to many inquiries; some by attorneys, other agencies and by pro se parties who do not understand legal and case-specific processes.
This position requires a typing test with a minimum of 35 net WPM. If you meet the minimum qualifications, a testing link will be sent to you via email. You must complete the testing within 48 hours of the closing date to be considered further.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Receives, audits and verifies the accuracy of court documents in all accepted formats. Prepares data and records as required or requested for daily court operations, agencies and case litigants. Is solely responsible to follow the rules / guidelines set by the County Clerk as well as State and Federal laws.
Prepares and maintains daily records for all court proceedings, preparing court orders and other documents for entry into court files and statewide database.
Locates and duplicates the official Court Records -- in either: paper, audio or electronic formats.
Acts as CR80 court reporter, maintaining the Court's audio record in lieu of a Court Reporter.
Acts as Bailiff, preparing court for proceedings, inventorying supplies, opening and closing court, seeing to the comfort and safety of jurors, court personnel and the public while in court. Coordinates activities with the Judge.
Conducts research and analysis as a legal assistant to the Court including researching case files and providing background information to Clerk, Judge or manager when requested.
Summarizes and records Court's written opinions hearing and trial minutes, Court rulings and jury verdicts for entry into court files and computer system. Prepares correspondence.
Facilitates jury selection; prepares and maintains appropriate record; administers oaths, announces jury verdicts; polls jury, records length of proceedings, updates jury time logs, witness records, seating charts etc.
Creates court calendars through proper extraction of dates from legal documents and correct application of identifying appropriate calendar codes. Assists the assigned Judge by maintaining court files, serving as liaison between the Judge and other departments and attorneys. Organizes office/desk work to blend with Court functions and tim
