Job Description Summary
The Public Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a secureenvironment at the front line of service. Ensures patients, employees,visitors, and guests are served and protected and that contents andassets of SRALab are secured. Patrols and identifies potentiallyharmful, dangerous or unsafe situations and ensures they are addressed.

Job Description
The Public Safety Officer will:
Patrols assigned areas, searching for safety hazards, presence ofunauthorized persons, and other potential sources of harm to personsor property.Maintains secure facilities, ensuring entrances are locked asrequired, controlling authorized access to rooms and offices.Responds to burglar, robbery and fire alarms disturbances, as wellas suspicious persons, accidents, and other various public servicecalls.Conducts preliminary investigation on complaints, incidents andaccidents, and prepares written reports on activities andinvestigations.Enforces all hospital safety and security rules and regulations asrequired including but not limited to smoking and parking policies.Maintains departmental equipment, including uniforms andaccessories,Provides directions and general information to patients, visitorsand staff, including assisting patients in and out of vehicles andwheelchairs when necessary.Assist with transporting employee\'s from SRALab to and from offsitegarages, and authorized areas via security vehicle.Assists with traffic control of the main driveway and parking garageincluding escorting patients, visitors, and employees to parkingareasTransports prescriptions, blood, gases, patient stats, and doctors\'orders as needed.Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interestof the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to Security Shift Sergeants or Security LieutenantKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Completion of a high school diploma.Minimum of 20 Hours Training outlined by the Illinois Department ofProfessional Regulation, or certification as a Peace Officer in theState of Illinois.Security experience - 2 years preferredKnowledge of security procedures, investigation techniques andreporting and public safety rules and codes. Three to six month\'sorientation to acquire necessary familiarity with SRALab policiesand procedures.Strong interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteousassistance to employees, visitors, 1 year customer serviceexperienceAbility to respectfully interact with all staff and patients orclients.Ability to professionally confront and control potentially hostilepersons.Capable of providing effective assistance in restraining abusive orhostile persons.Knowledge of proper body mechanics for transferring patients intoand out of vehicles.Ability to utilize Outlook, Cerner, Informacast, and C-Cure systemsMust have and maintain a valid State of Illinois Driver\'s Licenseor must commit to securing a valid State of Illinois Driver\'sLicense within the first 6 months of employment.Within the first 12 months of employment, must become Certified inIAHSS Beginner Course.Prefer an associate degree in criminal justice or militaryexperience.Public Safety apprentice program available to internal candidates.Working Conditions
Normal office environment with some exposure to dust or extremetemperature.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
Able to lift up to 35 lbs.
Position is subject to work weekends and holidays.
