In this position you will provide be responsible and accountable for the processing and review of resident medical records, ensuring compliance of records with relevant regulations and standards, schedule MDS assessments, processes/submits MDS electronically, prepares statistical report and audits as required. Duties include: Analyzes all medical records for residents being discharged, reviews and verifies that all documentation is correctly filed for the terminal record; Provides technical guidance to Health Unit Coordinators for resident chart set-up and maintenance. Abstracts and retrieves medical data used for evaluation, planning, survey and investigation. Responds to inquiries from physicians, nurses, staff, outside agencies, and/or individuals regarding medical records (providing appropriate consent for release of medical records has been obtained). Assist and prepare statistical reports required by external agencies and regulatory authorities. Ensures strict confidentiality of medical records and compliance with "HIPPA" rules and regulations. Schedules MDS cycles for the RAI nurse and transmits the MDS according to Federal and State schedules of completion, reconciles the MDS. Performs a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining resident medical records to include filing, retrieving, and distributing medical records. Maintains data logs and schedules (MDS) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Preferred Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Three-five years' experience. Experience in a long-term care facility is preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Exceptional telephone and communication skills and the desire to work closely with senior adults is essential. Must possess proficient computer skills, including email use, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other related software programs related to job duties.
