About Project Manager for Construction & Commissioning

  Job Description Summary

  Responsible for activities related to the construction, building and commissioning on customer site, from site mobilization, through civil, erection and commissioning work, as well as management activities related to this scope. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

  Job Description

  Summary :

  The Project Manager of Construction & Commissioning (C&C) (PMCC), reporting to the regional C&C Project Management Leader, will be responsible for controlling and supporting the field operations tasks with respect to scope, schedule, and budget. Based on business needs, the PMCC may be more involved with tendering stage of a project, execution phase, or a mix of the two. The PMCC will support multiple projects at one time across the region.

  Primary Responsibilities:

  In this role, the PMCC will be responsible for project delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of project site related activities and resources with the support of the Project Director, Construction Leader and C&C Project Management Leader.

  Execution (80%):

  Participate in site work Strategy definition with PD and Construction leader

  Lead RFQ for subcontracting

  Prepare the site for mobilization with PM Leader and Site Manager

  Support C&C site team during execution

  Navigate and control a fully resource loaded schedule (MSP or Primavera)

  Schedule preparation with Site Manager and support site schedule weekly updates

  Manage specific vendor packages at site (piping, painting, machining or equivalent)

  Scope management with high focus in change orders

  Proactive engagement in risk and opportunity assessment, able to drive outside-the-box opportunities to fruition, as well as effectively mitigate/eliminate risks

  Build robust project financial and physical progress tracking structure and forecasting, and ensure project team is aligned accordingly

  Leverage other functions as well as teams within C&C (Construction Leaders, Site Managers, Methods, Special Tooling, other PMCCs, etc.) to ensure smooth execution

  Utilize and reinforce the usage of business standards tools across all project’s portfolio

  Tendering (20%):

  Analyze specification & participate in Base of Scope definition

  Determine strategy pertaining to labour, scheduling, logistics, conditions, etc.

  Work with Supply Chain & Engineering functions for multi-functional strategy

  Leverage reference projects executed in the past

  Work with Tendering Site Specialist and Costing team to ensure correct strategy is chosen & ultimately validate the costing estimates

  Prepare risks & opportunities for C&C

  The split between tendering & execution may fluctuate with business needs.

  Required Qualifications :

  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in management or engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)

  Project Management experience

  Power generation experience

  Field Management experience

  Experience with technical concepts (including Hydro Machines, turbines, generators, etc.)

  Excellent leadership skills

  Strong EHS culture

  Strong influencer and capacity to lead change across the C&C function

  Strong IT skills (i.e. MS Office)

  Availability to travel, 50% of time within Canada and USA, willingness to travel and spend time at the customer’s refurbishment and construction site

  5+ years in project management organization in energy industry, construction or commissioning
